Spyderhawk rarity

#1

Post by LOOKABIRD »

How hard is it to find an actual Spyderhawk? I always hear things about the Endurahawk but I very rarely see a picture of a real Spyderhawk. I have a newfound interest in them now that I have Merlin SE en route :)

:spyder: Well considering it's not released and there's only prototypes I'd say they're pretty rare. :spyder:

hey Mike, you are thinking of the superhawk....the spyderhawk and the endurahawk were bigger versions of the merlin. the first batch had the handle still saying endura (they used endura handles because that is how big the knife was), they then fixed it and IIRC the new said spyderhawk or it could have had no inscription in the middle.

as with determining the price and "rarity" of any spydie, the thing to do is keep your eye on ebay for a while... see how often they go up, and what prices they bring. spyderhawks go up every once and a while, but are highly in demand... have cash ready, and be prepared for a battle. i'd guess NIB would maybe bring $200 or so.

I just got my endurahawk (used) for $53. gotta love people listing items they don't know about on ebay :D I suspect that people thought it was a tasman salt so no one bid higher than what those go for new....

Now...all I need is a blue handled one in PE....but I kinda doubt I'll get the same deal again....

I like that particular shade of blue FRN. I think it compliments the blade steel nicely. To me, it is a welcome change from all of the black FRN. A Caly Jr. with that color blue handles would look great, IMHO.

Spyderhawk

According to the info I have gotten on these guys, is that the spyderhawk, IS the EnduraHawk.. The First production run was with the enduras handle. After that it got its own little badge in the FRN. So in a way most refer to the spyderhawk, as the endura hawk, eventhough they are both the same thing..
I have a small collection.. At least in my mind its small. All respect to Sal and this great company! Collector Club Member #120

I don't think that Spyderco ever called it the Endurahawk. It was officially the Spyderhawk and some people on the forums started calling the first batch with the mis-marked handle an Enduahawk. I have one with the Endura marked handle and the box is marked Spyderhawk.

Hope this helps,

There's also a version of the Spyderhawk with the text in the handle upside down.
