Do you store your D2 Millie in a plastic bag?
The little note card that came with it warning of oxidation has me worried. :o

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

My D2 military gets used fairly often and it has never received any special care. I have yet to see any issues with oxidation.kraziekurtis wrote:Do you carry it often?
Does anyone carry it, and at the end of the day just leave it out on a table or something?

I have had a D2 Queen slipjoint that I have given no special treatment for about 5 years and it shows zero oxidation. Occasionally wipe down the blade and it should be just fine. Non stainless blades won't rust away to nothing overnight.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Yes I carry one and yes it is then just put in a drawer with the other knives I will EDC that week (the others go in a safe). I have carried it when it was snowing, when it was raining, etc. I treat mine like a blued steel handgun. I carried a blue steel autoloading pistol as a backup for years. At the end of the day, rain, winter, summer, whatever, I would wipe down the exterior of the weapon with a rag. Occasionally I would oil the exterior. I would only break it down and do maintenance if the firearm was fired or I had gotten completely soaked. I still have the firearm. The D2 Millie is not going to rust when you look at it. Use it and wipe it down. Oil it on rare occasions. It will be fine. The warning card is there so someone would not be surprised if they clipped their knife to their swim trunks, swam in the ocean for an hour or two, tossed the dripping knife in the trunk of their car for a month, then pulled it out when they finally cleaned their vehicle and discovered the knife had some rust on it. Spyderco (any manufacturer really) gets some very silly "warranty" claims that any reasonable person would be embarrassed and ashamed to send in. The warning card with your knife is to keep morons from complaining that "Hey, you didn't say I couldn't leave it in the tacklebox, soaking in salt water for a month."kraziekurtis wrote:Do you carry it often?

I agree with the others. I've had my D2 Millie stored in my back pocket next to my wallet for several months. Care has consisted of wiping it off on my pant leg after use and sharpening when needed. No oxidation detected so far.
D2 has almost enough chrome to qualify as stainless. CPM D2 seems to be even closer. I have had Queen D2 develop rust spots, but not the Spydie (so far).

I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.
Mine is in my regular EDC rotation and yeah, at the end of the day I just leave it on my dresser. When it's not on me or on my dresser, it's in my "knife box" (cardboard lined with a couple of bandanas :) ) in my top dresser drawer. Like KaliGman, I treat it more or less like a blued steel pistol. If it gets wet or sweaty during the day, I will wipe it off with an oiled rag and be done with it.kraziekurtis wrote:Do you carry it often?

Use it and enjoy it. Quit worrying about it. :D

Dude this is awesome to know. I'm glad to hear this. I know that I've had knives with regular D2 that have had a tendency to rust here and there. I guess CPM-D2 is more resistant and that's good. :)KaliGman wrote:Yes I carry one and yes it is then just put in a drawer with the other knives I will EDC that week (the others go in a safe). Wanna keep your carbon knives from rusting without having a glob of grease on them? Just wax them! Yes!!! auto wax!!! "Do not dampen the cloth" just use the wax. I like New Finish (the once a year polish). Be careful when doing it 'cause it will be slicker than s _ _ _! and easy to slip and get cut. When I was actively making knives I got that tip from Custom Bladesmith Rob Hudson. Clean blade with Flitz first and then wax.

Advance Auto Parts :D I never used it and wouldn't on something with a finish like a blued gun but as far as non stainless blades you betcha! I have it on my Randalls and that big Mountain Man knife that I showed ya. The Randall's are not but the big boy is even stored in the leather sheath and so far no rust.
