Another Forum Knife Thread
I know. It's still early in the year for this, but if we start now maybe it can happen this year. Here is what I propose. Sal and Company seem to have taken some inspiration from somewhere and got all color happy on us this year :D . We already got the Pink D4 & E4. The UKPK got some new pants. The Urban looks to be equally colorful.
We will soon see Sprint Runs of the following: Delica 4, White FRN Handle, ComboEdge; Dragonfly, White FRN Handle, Plain, Endura 4, White FRN Handle, Plain; Ladybug 3, Orange FRN Handle, Plain, Ladybug 3, White FRN Handle, Serrated.3
So what I propose is this. A version of one of these Sprint run knives could easily be the 2008 forum knife. A unique variation of edge or handle color would be easy logistically speaking if they already have plans to use these colors for 2008. Perhaps we could get a White FRN Delica in PE for the forum only. Or we could get an Orange PE Dragonfly. These are classic models that almost everyone likes, plus they are fairly inexpensive allowing the financially challenged such as myself to participate. I think the easier we keep things for Spyderco the more likely we are to see this happen. This seems like a pretty simple way to go. What do you think?

I like the idea of orange FRN in the Dragonfly...or maybe British Racing Green...or maybe blue...oh yeah, or maybe the awesome WAVED grey/denim color!
I really *NEED* to add a Dragonfly to my collection, and this would definitely convince me. What can I say, I like colors! :D

Yes I am quoting myself again (from another thread).David Lowry wrote:I don't currently own any forum knife. I never bought one. That being said, if there is a forum knife for 2008, I will be happy with anything at all. Absolutely anything. So I will vote yes for whatever everyone else wants. :D
I still feel the same. I would love a 2008 forum knife but hey whatever happens, when it happens, if it happens, what knife, etc.......is all of no matter to me. I'll take anything. :)

To the best of my knowledge, Spyderco's Japanese makers would require an order of at least 600 pieces for a knife with a different color or edge. In addition, the best selling of all the Forum knives to date sold less than 200 pieces. That would leave Spyderco a considerable number of "orphans" to dispose of. I know I sound like a broken record on this subject, but a forum model suggestion based on an "off-the-shelf" model, distinguished only by the engraving, might stand a better chance of becoming a reality.
That said, I, like David, will buy whatever is chosen.

i read the first post wrong...i say make one of the models already coming out a forum knife...no different variation other than having someone in Golden laser engraving it to read "Spderco Forum Knife 2008", that seems like the most likely to happen IMO. after thinking about it, making one of the sprint runs that are coming out (like i said before, my vote is for the white E4 :D ) would seem the most lucrative for everyone involved. There are a ton of the pink enduras and delicas on ebay now at a pretty cheap price. spyderco sold out of them but some dealers/speculators got stuck with a few too many now that all of us hardened collectors/users have had their full. if and that is a big IF because the powers that be, Sal and the gang, would have to go along with this idea i could see maybe 150 white enduras being sold as the 2008 forum knife, preordered for of course. the rest of the batch could go out to the usual routes of dealers and that would make sure that all 600 were sold. this is of course just my opinion and i could be totally wrong on this :o .

If they took your advice it would be a collector piece for sure and increase in value like crazy. :ptonydahose wrote:i read the first post wrong...i say make one of the models already coming out a forum knife...no different variation other than having someone in Golden laser engraving it to read "Spderco Forum Knife 2008", that seems like the most likely to happen IMO.

i am sure it would but Sal wouldn't see a dime of the aftermarket prices, he basically does this just for us die hard fans and all i can say is thanks for that.aj1985 wrote:If they took your advice it would be a collector piece for sure and increase in value like crazy. :p

I agree, keep it simple and its more likely to happen. I've read about the minimum piece requirements before, but I thought it was only regarding color. I would think with regard to edge configuration it would be easy make a couple hundred White Delicas in Plain edge for example. Its a high production model so I would think it would be easily accomplished. But, I don't know much about working with a Japanese cutlery business. The Deacon wrote:To the best of my knowledge, Spyderco's Japanese makers would require an order of at least 600 pieces for a knife with a different color or edge. I just hope it happens for 2008.

I like the idea of using the orange Ladybug. Here's my rationale:
1) It will be limited production anyway and won't require Spyderco to make a go-zillion just for the forum.
2) ANY forumite should be able to afford one.
3) It should be legal pretty much anywhere.
4) Orange is just plain cool!! :D

I meant this one in particular if Sal followed your advise on the engraving. :Daj1985 wrote:If they took your advice it would be a collector piece for sure and increase in value like crazy. :p

Count Me In : )
I would buy a 2008 forum knife no matter what model or color or blade edge type etc so if it is possible then I am in for sure. If Spyderco makes one then count me in & I will buy it I am not going to give any suggestions of what it should be or not I will leave that up to Sal :)
