Microtech vs. Spyderco

I was looking through my old collection and found a bunch of Benchmades and Microtechs (back when they were cheaper, haha) and was wondering why people compare Microtech (or even Cold Steel God forbid...) to Spyderco??

Even at the malls over in PA and MD where I go there are Spydies for a fraction of the price and in my opinion, much better knives, not only for t he money but for the steel as well. Can anyone shed some further light on this?

... but it's a pretty long-standing position here that we don't spend our time discussing the relative virtues of Spydeco and its rivals. Sal would prefer that we don't, so we don't.
