byrd Wings

#1

Post by jaislandboy »

I am Dyad-less, so I had to see what this byrd Wings was all about...this arrived yesterday from the Pharmacy....
the Good: the knife functions perfectly, it arrived with sharp, symmetrically ground blades, the liner locks x2 function flawlessly and has zero blade play.... all in all the Wings is an impressive piece for the price
the Bad: the cordura pouch has a belt loop that is constructed of a rather thin material that imho should be made thicker and reinforced better to the pouch itself.... I'm glad it has a good clip, lol :D
Now for my Ugly pix :p
the comparison knives are the: waved Delica4 and G-10 Flight

I was thinking of pickin one up too? They look well finished.
How do they feel in hand ergonomicly wize? I don't have a dyad and this looks like a versital one.

Hi Maarten, as i have small hands, the knife when held in the forward grip (w/one blade open) the "hump" over the comet-hole makes it difficult for my 3rd,4th, 5th fingers(pinky) to wrap comfortable around the handle.....but i believe larger hands won't have as much problem as myself :)
I'm really impressed how solidly both linerlocks engage....this was the first thing that I checked ;)

Wow that looks good. I have wanted a full sized dyad so this is a natural fit. Thanks for the picks and review.

I'd like to see a picture of one with both blades open, if anybody has one or a link to one. I bet it looks like a miniature Klingon Batleth with both blades open.

What a nice coincidence, yesterday I was just about to ask if anybody has the Wings and would be so kind to post a couple of real feel pics. Brian did without knowing. Thanks Bro :) Not exactly my cup, but definitely interesting. As for byrds being better and better, I just hope byrds gonna climb to the spyders, not the other way round ;)

heheh I thought about taking a photo but it's just too "big" (with both wings extended) for me to take a good photo....Klingons ;) :p
hey Jano, I'm glad the pix helped somehow....the knife has a "heavy duty" feel to it and both SE and PE blades are impressively sharp.... yeah it's much too big for my edc too but i might keep this one in the truck :)

Sweet Pics Brian - Like most other forumites I was also interested in the F&F&Feel of this particular model. I know it's not in the "same league" with a full size Dyad but this model may be close enough for my pocketbook, and with a lower cost you wont feel bad when you really work it hard. Thanks for the review Brian. :)

Fine pics there! The set-up of the blades looks lefty-friendly, how good is the one-hand opening with the left hand?

thanks Shawn and Arend...
hi Wouter, the Wings works well for lefty opening and the clip has 4 way mounting capability...thanks for the photo compliment but Your photos are Fine and mine are Coarse  :p
Seems that the Wings has the same weight as the Flatbyrd...at 5.4 ounces.
Now I need to get a Microdyad esp. the upcoming Black lip pearl one

Liner shots

Very pleased with the build quality of the Wings.....the three liners are equally thick (around 1.5mm? to my ruler)... the clip has 4 position capablity, really sharp blades that lock up tight and solid

thanks Agent Starling, the Wings is the same weight as the Catbyrd but at least it weighs less than a Byrdrench :p ....and the good news is that the Pharmacy seems to have replenished their stock ;)
