Hitman knife

#1

Post by LOOKABIRD »

I am creating a comic book character and I really want him to carry a few Spyderco's. What do you guys picture a hitman carrying? I was thinking a BG-42 Military, a Civilian, a Cricket for backup anda Caly3 CF ZDP for use around sheeple. Thoughts?

Well, the esteemed Dr. Lecter carried a Harpy, a Military, and a Civilian. But since you can't exactly have your character copy that (idea infringement and all  )...

My idea of a hitman involves efficiency, proficiency, and excellence in quality (they've already got that going, using Spyderco ;) ). As such, I would recommend:

Police (most blade length packed into the handle)
CF Caly3 (It is good around sheeple, as you said, but it's also got the sharpest blade I have ever used!)
Yojimbo (designed for self defense)
P'Kal (Designed for defense, like the Yo. Plus it's just awesome)
and, partly as a nod to one of my favorite Spyderco fixed blades, the Swick (it's small, concealable, and the flat-ground wharncliffe blade makes it a devil of a slicer)

You do realize that if this comic-book character idea takes off, you're obligated to post stuff about it here, right?

Was it a Military that Hannibal carried? In the book, it actually never says. It says he bought a Harpy, Civie, and a '4 inch straight blade with serrations' or something to that effect. Doesnt ever say 'Military' or any name. :spyder:

Well, the Military is really the only "Straight, serrated Spyderco with a 4-inch blade" that there is, so it makes sense, really.

All I know is that I won Starling's 1,000 post contest with "Harpy, Military (the straight, serrated Spyderco), and Civilian.

So Military it is! :D :p

Maybe another knife that can be carreid is the Emerson Stealth Kerambit. It's a kerambit fixed blade that is made out of GV6H which is a glass composite. It could be used while going through metal detectors and stuff.

I'd say the P'Kal looks the most "hitman"-esque. It's very unconventional looking, yet it is unmistakably a killing knife.

Actually, the picture that comes to my mind is the bad press that knives in general and Spyderco in particular would get from being carried and used by a comic book character, particularly if impressionable kids take a likin' to the character and start buying and using Spydercos for something other than their intended purposes.

I know I'm a wet blanket here, but...

What if he used the Spyderco models without saying "Spyderco" anywhere?

I didn't know that there was an intended purpose for Spyderco knives: there's nothing specific in the catalogue, at least, that I can see. And, anyway, if he's carrying a Ronin, Yojimbo, SPOT, Swick, or P'kal (amongst others) the implied purpose would be to cut up bad guys.

For this reason I think it should be something designed with SD in mind, which would make the Civilian or P'Kal a good choice.

Personally I'd like to see the Yojimbo, it's an unconventional design, not well known outside the forums, and is hard to find (which would make it difficult for the mall ninjas to get their gloves on one).

If I were a hitman...

...after telling you what I carry I would have to kill you :p

My imagination of hitmans :spyder: tools are:
  • black Yojimbo
  • CF PE Civilian
  • PE black Dodo
  • Ronin
  • Harpy PE
  • special tool based on the "Mosquito" but made from a G10 or CF Police, so a nice folding spike..

Of course, these are for a comic character... If a hitman wants to stay sheeple friendly, he`s gonna use a screwdriver.. ;)
