Tek-Lock replaced with G clip

#1

Post by catamount »

Anyone else notice that the Tek-Lock has been replaced with a G clip on all the FBs in the 2008 catalog?

It looks potentially better. I am curious as to why the change, and what the advantages of the G clip are?

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I prefer G clips myself. They dont stick out as much as tek loks and you can use them without a belt.

In fact, I just replaced my Street Beat tek lok with a G clip.

Could anyone provide more info, and possibly pictures of the new G-clip that will be used for Spyderco's fixed blades? Which positions are possible with this clip?

thanks,

Wouter

Wouter,

Just guessing fro looking at catalog, as I haven't seen one in person, but looks like you'll have at least as many carry options as with a TekLok. Besides a possible reduction in bulk, "G" clips give you the extra option of using the sheath "beltless" as with sweats or running shorts. Sal and I have had several conversations about the merits of each. The move to "G" clips is just another one of Spydercos constant improvements in product. GOOD MOVE!!!

Thanks Mike, I like the function of the G-Clip that came with your Streetbeat sheath. But I'd hate to see all those mounting options of the Tek Lok go. The pics in the online 2008 catalog are too tiny and blurry for me to get a good look at it. But I can make out some holes, I think, for added clip options.

Wouter,

I Have physical catalog - better pictures. Don't think you have to fear losing all the options - looks like they are still there.

I would also like to see a closeup picture of one of those new G-Clips. I hope they come as "loose" accesoire so i can order some for other sheaths. :D
Good thinking from spyderco. I was never to fond about the Tech-loks.
