catch the "wave"...

#1

Post by AllenETreat »

I was wondering about one of these for EDC...

...thing is, I'm more tended towards the :spyder: edge than PE.

So I was considering a Rescue wave -

Not really a toad stabber, but that :spyder: edge would inflict a
nasty SD oriented cut!

Any opinions on the wave?

In this week i had my Delica wave in my RFP, if you place it well in the pocket, it will open every time you grab it :D I really LOVE it. can be a life saver, if speed is an important factor.

I would never go with a tipless knife for SD, but this is my opininon only :p

If you want Spyderedge, a Wave *and* a point, you could give STR a shout.

If you are trained and/or practice to "cut" instead of "stab" I believe it would make a dandy SD knife.

:spyder: A rescue knife can be about as effective in self-protection situations as a straight razor. Some will say a straight razor's useless because you can't stab with it. You fight like you train. :spyder:

General use--yes SD--no

Can a rescue or other blunt ended blade be used in self defense--yes. Is it the best choice--no.

Having no point severely limits you. I want to keep all my options open. It is like using a .22 target pistol for defense, it can work, but that .45 ACP customized by Les Baer is just sooooo much better.

Would he grind a point onto a Rescue Wave or serrate an E4W?

While I'm not a big fan of sheepsfoot blades, I absloutely love what STR made out of a blue Rescue (regular, not waved).
Not only he made a wharncliffe from that blunt blade and gave her a very appealing shape, but he also put there his particular type of wave. It's smaller than the one made by Spyderco but from the testimonials I read at the Forum(s) it works equally well.
Not to mention that STR also has his low ride clips - some of you may enjoy them even more ;)

though not a "wave"...

I also have the assist II in mind -

The cobra hood would act as a sort of "wave". ITAO, however, the
"hole" is enough, really anything else is overkill.

The wave & cobra hood do add to the aesthetic value of the knife.

DiAlex ( or anybody ) -

So who's "STR" anyways? e-mail me -

allenetreat@yahoo.com

I'd certainly like a wharncliffe rescue wave SE.

How about putting a tanto point on it. You could have have a PE point for poking and scraping, and a SE for slicing.

If you want a rescue or boat knife, it is perfect as it is.
