Anybody here have a titanium ring?

#1

Post by tonydahose »

i broke my original wedding band a few months into being married (over 11 years ago now..) i didnt wear it much because i used to work near alot of hydraulic equipment and it was a big no-no. anyways the mrs wants me to get one that i wont mangle and i think titanium should do the trick. if anybody does have one do you have the brushed finish or polished and how easily does either scratch up (i am guessing brushed will hold up alot better). i have also seen a blackened titanium, i am guessing that is just a finish (not all the way through, right?) any idea how that will hold up?
thanks
tony

They 'look' nice, but they do indeed scratch VERY easily, and VERY visibly. Unless you can find one DLC coated? ;)

Spyderco makes stuff with holes in them..... maybe you should commission a Spydie ring ;) :p

I'd get a brushed/ linish finish on it as scratches will be less obvious on it.

On another note, my Dad wears some of his wedding trinkets on a chain around his neck. But he has a secondary ring for his fingers. A necklace might not be a bad idea so you can have it on you at all times.....though in your line of wok, snagging it on stuff may be a problem.

i am not much of a jewelery guy. i offered to get a tattoo of a band on the ring finger but the wife declined. :D ...while the spyderco inspired ring would be very cool i think the mrs might have some misgivings on who i am married too..lol ;) .

Hahahaha, fair enough from your wife. Tatoo on the ring finger is one I haven't thought about before.

I'm not much for jewellery either, only things I have on me are watch and wedding band (plain old vanilla gold). Recently taken to wearing a paracord necklace with my pistol safe key and USB flashdrive (with confidential comapny files on it).

Titanium ring would be great. Get it nice and fat, brushed finish would be great. Doubles as a nice "punch-enhancer" ;)

And yes Spyderknut, all our rings have spyderholes through them. Think Sal may have a patent breach, and he should contact all jewellers about putting a :spyder: logo inside all rings from now :p

Tony, I've been wearing the black Ti wedding ring for a couple of years and it is holding up just fine. I am not a jewelery kind of guy either, but I'm pretty happy with this. I wear it 24/7 and never worry about taking it off for rough work. I have moved truck loads of cinder block by hand and it holds up alot better than gold. It does have some scratches in the finish, but it ends up looking kind of brushed. You really have to look close to even notice the hair line scratches. I think it just adds character to it. All in all, I am very happy with mine and I expect it will outlast me by a long shot.

Been wearing mine for 5+ years now, and aside from a little weathering it still great. I wear mine 24/7 also, but am aware of it while doing rougher stuff with my hands. An emt bud of mine warned me to get the ring off my finger fast If I should happen to break that finger, I guess only one Emergency room in the Denver Metro area has a cutter that'll cut Titanium.

"Abyss" Model just like Bud wore in the movie.

I've been wearing a silver ring for the last 7yrs or so, never even think about it when I'm working hard. Edges are all dinged up, but it hardly shows.

I'm not married, but my girlfriend got me a titanium "friendship" ring a few years ago that I wear all the time - on the only finger it fits, left ring finger  It isn't shiny anymore (I don't remember if it ever was), but I have used it to open beer bottles quite a few times without putting any major nicks in it, so it is pretty tough.

I originally had a platinum ring thinking that but it scratched so easy. I unfortunaly lost it a couple of years ago and replaced it with a titanium that is brushed on top and polished on sides. while it does scratch its not quite as visible. plus it ways next to nothing.

here is a link to a ring I had my eye on, not what you looking for but, I had to put it in here. g-10 self defense oriented ring with colored crystal insert, kind of cool looking in very practical. :D

This is going to sound odd but I've heard, although I do not have any ring so can speak from experience, that there than actual scientific studies and at least one. highly ironically connecting wedding rings in particular with impotence due to some kind of vascular constriction nerve relationship. I'm not kidding. If I had to wear a marriage ring. I would consider finding something different, specifically a high-quality "steel of your choice" Nash ring, with an unusually organic stone such a smooth semi-flawless. diamond and cut. or even better a small Tanzaniaite stone. a newly discovered dime in like mineral, brilliant blue and harder than diamond.
