Hi 224477
generally called a Rondel dagger, 18 inches of bronze, horn and 5160 steel(blade 12 inches)made by a great maker here in the UK(not sure if i am allowed to post a link) A composite of many items i have seen in museums and reference books.

Very nice Phil, what's the handle material? Looks like it might be stone.

Hi Deacon
the grip is highly polished horn, as are the black spacers in the rondels. Maybe Sal would like to make a folding version??????

Thanks Phil, that's the same stuff as the Beretta I just got. Might have to get my hands on a couple pieces and have SFSW do me a Kiwi.

As for a folding version of your new toy, packing 12 inches of blade into 6 inches of handle might be beyond even Sal's exceptional talent for knife design. ;)

Most likely, water buffalo, like this, some makers and manufacturers just call it buffalo horn. Fairly popular in Europe, see it a quite a bit on Laguioles, Navajas, and Italian style switchblades. Less popular here, not sure why. From what I understand, it is not as prone to cracking and checking as rams horn.
