Damascus Zowada

Post by UK KEN »

Hello All

I had contacted Tim Zowada a couple of days ago trying to find a little information about the steels used in the damascus for the Evolution Set Worker. Here is his reply.......

Ken,

Thank you for your interest in my work. I made the steel for the Evolution
edition. The steel was sent to Japan for blanking, grinding and heat
treating. The steel was a lamination of W2 and ASTM203E. It was mostly done
as a great experiment. Sal wanted to see if he could get steel imported in to
Japan and get the knives made.

One thing we did discover is that Damascus is not well suited to fine
blanking. I had suggested laser or water jet, but the Japanese insisted on
fine blanking. Overall, the project was a success.

Since then, I designed the C56 model. It was in production for a couple years.
I hope they will bring it back...

I hope this helps,

Tim Z.

I wonder how many people here would be interested in a C56 with a Tim Zowada damascus blade?

Regards, Ken

Check out Tim's website under available knives to see his re-interpretation of the Spyderco Zowada in damascus.

Sorry Ken, count me out on that one. Even the most "lefty friendly" linerlock is low on my "desirability" scale, and the he C56 Zowada is one of the most totally "lefty hostile" Spydercos ever built. On top of that, the design is one that just does not appeal to me. "Stabby" blades and liner locks just don't make a good pairing, in my opinion. So, even if a left handed version were available, I'd pass.
