Just got this in the mail today and I didn't even know it existed until I saw one on ebay. I want to thank RONT for finding this bad boy for me! He sure helped out a lot and definitely deserves the credit for it. Does anybody know the history behind this thing? I heard that they were originally only made for Bram Frank to be sold by him to LEO's and such and there were only about 1000 made. Can anyone elaborate on this? Hope you enjoy the pic's.
That is the Crimp I believe, similar to the drone but without the rounding of the impact surfaces. It is meant to cause more discomfort than the drone...Take Care...Ed

Thats correct. Not sure about exact numbers, but suffice it to say there aren't many around. Two of them used to be in my collection.
The CRMIPT is a melding of the live blade and trainer. The blade is dull like the trainer, but features the same sharp horns on the ramp and handle for pain compliance techniques. It was designed to be used by officers as a addition to their arsenal of tools, but was edgeless to conform to many department rules. Apparently live blades are a liability if used in self defense, and a dulled blade is easier on the legal department.
They were at one point in very high demand, and I've seen them sell for anywhere from $300 to $600. Hope you got a good deal on it, because yours looks minty fresh.

That is part of it. Another part is that it opens up a whole extra tray in the tool box utilizing a very similar platform as the live blade. That extra tray being "pain compliance" best utilized for the silly resistors you commonly see on Cops. A strong argument can be made for using a tool to literally hit a pain nerve to bring a perp under control. If correctly utilized it is more humane than beating them with a club or risking failure or harm that other tools such as tazers and sprays can suffer.

It is BNIB Mint and I paid $145 for it. I think the one I saw on ebay went for around $200.

Congrats on your excellent deal :D
I got a tip from RONT that there was one at a local gun shop near him so that is the reason for the good deal, otherwise, who knows what the next one on the secondary market will go for.
Hi Felly, congrats on your new... humm.... "knife". :o The CRMPIT is a very effective tool in a trained hand (at least so it shows in Bram's demonstrations)
The new version (which unfortunately is no longer made by Spyderco) has texturing instead of the dull edge allowing a wider range of maneuvers (like catching the opponent's finger between the blade and the handles (which also share the fine texturing).

Not quite, the Red Trainer was available to all....for training. :D
The Blue was designed for subduing and compliance. Some circles see this as a LEO only function. A civilian either has to defend him/herself or not...no reason to "subdue" a perp, to take into custody.
:spyder: A "fightin' trainer"?? That Bram is wacky. In his ranting posts Mr. Frank goes on about militaries and police forces adopting and using his tactics and gunting et al but he never says which ones in particular. Odd. :spyder:
