Off-Topic / Really Off Topic

#1

Post by TazKristi »

This has been a very interesting place for the past few weeks. It may be in part because of the time of year. Emotions run high for a lot of people this time of year. For some it may be the Holidays (all of them, there are a lot - regardless of ones beliefs), it may be the close of another year - time lost.

Sal and I spoke this morning and he's asked that the Religious and Political discussions be left off this board. There are other forums in the world for those discussions. We realize this side of the forum is "Off Topic", but I trust that it goes without extremely detailed information what we've intended. This is an Off-Topic section of a forum on a knife manufacturers site.

Granted, it's true, this is a unique forum, so there are non-knife related things that are discussed, but there are some topics best left alone on a public forum associated with a company doing business in over 50 countries across the globe.

To a certain extent I agree. I must say though that I was happy to see how heated things didn't get. The majority of the people who visit theses forums seem to be intelligent, thoughtful, rational, and kind more so than just about anywhere else I have been.

No offense taken here, I will respect yours and Sal's wishes and contribute no more religious posts to this forum. I believe we have been well tempered and reserved for the most part, some good points made. It was nice while it lasted, but I guess a few people have now got their wish.

It is sad to see the minority ruin it for everyone, but that seems to be the way the world works right now.

I'm happy to say it appears I missed all the "fun." Haven't read through the locked the threads yet, as I haven't had much free time, but any time you add politics/religion and a forum you have a recipe for...issues.

I'll happily follow that request.

If the forum goddess wills it, I will heed.

There's plenty of people to argue with around my home. Besides, I just bought the Davinci Code movie ;)

Shoooot,

And I was going to start a thread with the title: "Should religious beliefs help
you make political decisions?"

Kidding... 100% with you, taz, on this one.

Most of the respondents remained pretty civil , this speaks to the health of the community in general .

So it has been said, so it shall be.

Now that all this is put to an end, I notice how the atheist thread itself didn't cause any (or if it did, rather few) issues, but the tone of several other threads did change considerably.

If for no other reason, this is the best reason not to have those type of threads. However, I feel that there were only a couple of people that got out of hand with it, which is pretty sad to say that there are some people that just cannot control themselves when it comes to certain topics. I think overall it was a great discussion and I learned some stuff and I'm pretty sure others did too. I'm sad to see it go, but I totally understand and agree at the same time.

Good call Sal and Kristi.

Even though the discussions remained fairly civil, surprisingly so, they are so far of topic for a knife forum that they are better discussed elsewhere.

Absolutely right on this issue!
If you were to ask me, I truly think that knives and religion is a bad mix at that...

Hey, I'm just happy it went as well as it did for as long as it did, congrats to everybody!

And good call on cutting it off before it got nasty.

Thank you Kristi and Sal,

I make it a point to never discuss my religious beliefs or political views while at work. I am glad that neither of those topics will be discussed here any longer.

I am here to discuss knives and to learn from my fellow knife brothers and sisters! :D

Thanks again, Kristi and Sal!
I will feel less "stressed" while browsing the threads here...at my first and favorite forum!!! :D

God bless!

I've got agree with Sal and Kristi on this. This is a knife-centric forum and belongs to Spyderco.

While it is interesting be able to know a little more about fellow forumites, I didn't really want to know quite that much. ;)

Although I managed to avoid posting, a few PMs might be going out. :)
