what's your taste in fixed blades?
what's your taste in fixed blades?
new off-topic topic, but on-topic since it's about knives:
what fixed blade do you like/carry for those times you carry one?
here's some factors:
- brand
- model
- blade length
- sheath type
- sheath carry
- heavy/light
etc......
let's hear it! :)

FB Temperance
The one that has taken me by storm this past year has been the fixed blade Temperance model. Like I've said before they had announced it's being discontinued before I got my first one. I immediately fell in love with that knife. I have 6 of them all together plus a trainer. I keep 2 in the kitchen and usually keep one PE and one SE in my truck when I am heading up to the country.
The FB Temperance is just a great all around knife. I am however kind of getting into the Ronin here lately too because I just snagged another one here lately.
The Temperance is model FB-05 in the Spyderco line up. It comes standard equiped with a Tek Lok sheath made of Kydex. It has a 4.5 inch blade and an FRN handle. Trust me it grows on you. But the Ronin is also becoming interesting the more I check it out.

I'd like a Temp, but I just can't find a PE anywhere anymore. My taste in FBs tends to stay away from the Busse type "chopper" and more toward the BRKT type "does everything well except chop". Something like a Fox River
Bark River & Spyderco
Fox River & Temperence
4-6"
Sheath type doesn't bother me providing it's well done
Belt carry
Light

Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

My first FB should be here by March or April. It's custom made with a 4.5 inches 440C Warncliff blade with a scallop on the spine and some kind of purple Micarta Handle.
It should have a Kydex sheat...
Oh, and it's made by one of our friend, designed by another one of our friend...
really, I can't wait

I too, prefer the CR hollow handle knives. I have a project I and a Mk VI and both are great knives for their purpose. I also like the BRKT knives, really sharp and well made though the sheaths aren't what I'd expect. I do the like the Temperance but only have 1. It does see a lot of time in the kitchen at my house and I've taken 'er camping too. I love to have another.

lets see.... my FB collection...
LHK Skean Dhu (one off custom, my personal design and choices :p )
Tichbourne H7 (2 pins, left hand sheath & handle)
Tichbourne "flyfishing knife" (I know craig has one, not sure if there's a 3rd one still out there)
Leavitt Drop point (twins, cocobolo and bucote, right and left sheaths)
CKE twins (440c, CF, kydex, IWB rigs)
CKE warncliffe
CKE shopknife (his yellow one that made it's rounds :p )
:spyder: FB01 Moran (convex, mirror polish, both factory crossdraw leather and OS/T kydex, #638)
Ruko 4" skinner
I'll have to take a pic of them all together to really appreciate the list. All between 2-4".... most around 2".

My favorite of the ones I've accumulated are a Kanetsune hunter in Super Blue steel ( Love that stuff ), Old Tigershark in SK-5 carbon steel, Becker 7, &Trailmaster in "Carbon V" 52100 both made by Camillus.A KaBar D2. An unknown HS steel knife home made by some one long gone made in the 50's. It still had original, unused edge on it when I bought it. I've got a few 1095 steel knives of various kind that taught me how easy sharpening can be with carbon steel, after learning on junk stainless. JL

For current "street carry" its hard to beat my Temperence PE set up for crossdraw. For field work its my old Kabar (that Marine thing) and/or 1943
USMC jungle bolo or the khukri I've had for twenty years. All see frequent use.

Been packing at least two Spyderco knives a day since 1984

Been using a carbon steel Puukko for years at work.
Small enough to have it in one the pockets of my jacket and plenty strong.
For the rest, I like all kind of custom fixed blades as long as I like the lines and the workmanship.
Thing is that I never get to carry and use them and I love the knives I really use the most.
