Knife question, SOG,s arc-lock & Boker button lock

#1

Post by Havatoo »

I have a question for anyone who owns a SOG knife with SOG's arc-lock feature, please. Is it possible to open them by simply pressing on or pushing the arc-lock button and flicking ones writst?
And, those Boker button-lock knives, is it possible to open them the same way?
I like the idea of a gravity knife, I think they're more practical than a fully automatic knife (I know that probably seems strange) and these two types of knives seem as close to a gravity knife as it's possible to get

I believe so; I once owned a couple of SOGs and they would both flick open as you describe quite nicely when the lock was retracted.

Yes, you can open the Bokers that way, but you might have to adjust
the tension on the pivot a little.
Thanks, Terry

Yes, what you are asking is possible. It does work usually, if the pivots are loose enough.

However, I would not recommend it. That is just my opinion, though. I own a SOG X-Ray Vision and a Cold Steel Recon 1, which both have the same basic lock type, and I broke both of them within a week doing what you are asking. I sent them both in, the Cold Steel came back fixed to it's prior state, but the people at SOG added a double set of "springs" to the lock to make it even stronger. They told me that those type of knives are not meant to be flicked open like that, and that they should be opened with the thumb stud in a controlled fashion. I'm sure there are lots of people who flick their axis-locks open like that with no problem, but the two that I have done that with have broken.

Just my $.02. I don't want you to make the same mistake I did and be without your knife for a month! Good luck!
