Blade swap CF Delica VG10 for a ZDP blade

#1

Post by dalerich »

Hello all,
I have a conceptual question regarding the possibility of exchanging a ZDP blade from a Delica (4th Generation) with the frame and scales from a carbon fiber Delica. Would anyone from the Spyderco crew care to weigh in on this?
I could take both knives apart to see if it is possoble, but thought I would ask here first.

Thank you very much.

The carbon fiber BG42 Military ROCKS!!! The BEST Military or for that matter the best knife you ever made.

Dale,
Honestly, odds are it won't work, at least not well. There were just too many changes in the model between those two releases.

I wouldn't recommend it.

someone in here, don't remember who, put his ZDP blade in a Foliage Green handle and it seemed to be working flawlessly.

True, but that blade transfer was D4 to D4. The CF Delica was done in the 2nd or 3rd generation delicas, and those have a mechanically different build than the D4's.

D4 Blade Swap

Post by Senorx »

I swapped a D4 PE VG-10 blade into my Green Foliage D4, cause I don't care much for the combo edge. It worked out great. Blade locks up and there is no play. Just a little FYI. I have pics if anyone is interested. The 2nd and 3rd gens. really look differant than the D4. Looks like a hard swap!

Hey all,
Thanks for the info. I will take your advice and not tackle this.
If you have a picture of both the gen 3 and gen 4 blades removed from the knife handles I would certainly appreciate a look.
Thank you,
BG42 Military = great EDC

I remember I asked this same question when the E4/D4 was first anounced, and Kristi gave me the same answer. I was hoping it would because I prefer the old blade shape.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

So do I :o ]
OTOH, I guess it's not too difficult to grind the back of the blade so it will look more like the original.
