My new green Endura 4.

#1

Post by MojoRising »

I have to be honest. I didn't like what I saw when looking at pics online. I have carried an old school Endura for so long I was more than a little biased. All the pics I saw also seemed to make the E4 look too thick and round in the scales. Well, I just got my green E4 in from NGK today and I have to eat some crow. I love the new Endura! Time will tell how the new screw system holds up, and I still think the old single large barrel screw was a better idea for a pocket clip. But all things considered I should have known I would love it. It is a Spyderco after all...

iv'e come to realize that even if i don't particularly care for a certain model of spyderco once i get it in my hands i feel the quality no matter which one it is and i have to at the least respect all the hard work that went into that knife.

I'm sure this has been covered already but do the clip screws thread into the metal liners?

You know, the more I see it, I think that forest green might just be the "perfect" color for the Endura...

Yep, in fact I'm 99,9% sure that all of the screws in all spydie models screw in metal parts, either a liner (clip screws) or into a female "screw-assembly"thingy. The opposite screws on each side the handle screws into eachother if that makes sense. see this example:

Yep, my crow tasted okay after a heavy dose of Dale's marinade, Cavender's Greek seasoning and sliced real thin with my new SS E4. :o

I was hesitant to change over from my SS E2, but after the second try, it has earned it's place as EDC. I thought I wouldn't like that it sticks up a bit higher with the redesigned clip in tip-up mode (the only real way :D ), but it gives a better place to grip it between the clip and the screws.

As for the tip, I prefer a pointer style, but in real use, the new tip functions just as well and gained strength. And of course, as good as AUS-6 really is, VG-10 is much better.

- I like that it is tip up - gets little to no dust in the pivot when working outside.
- The SS is plenty grippy with the ergos Sal has built in.
- It has a solid back, so my keys do not poke through and get the edge.
- Being SS, it looks a bit classier, although that is not a big deal.
- Disappears in the pocket even better with the smooth SS scales, much better than FRN when reaching in for other things.
- SS almost seems more personal, as it warms with use, especially in the winter.

I would still be quite interested in a lined G-10, VG-10, flat ground, tip up E4 though.

Until then, we have a winner, thanks Sal. :) :spyder: :)
