First Spyderco, first post

Got my Volpe C99 yesterday. Just...wow. The pics all say "production prototype pictured" -- the real thing looks just as pretty. And the quality is extraordinary. I have a CRKT, Kershaw, SOG, Gerber, etc. and the Volpe is not only sweet to look at but feels better in hand than all the others.

Nice, nice knife.

I am indeed enjoying the Volpe, and thank you for the reception. I must say, though, that I'm surprised this knife has not received more attention -- at least not that I've found. It doen't seem to have generated much excitement, despite its uniqueness and striking good looks.

Is that an accurate assessment? I bought it to use (and show off ;-)) but I'd think it was also very collectible.

it's really disliked by alot of people, myself not being one of them. i personally love the knife, although i must admit i wish i would had gotten the Vielle II insted. couldn't tell you why, i just find myself wanting that bad boy more and more these days and not wanting to carry my Volpe since i fear the wood may get damaged.

Actually, that's what I was trying to politely imply, being new and all. ;-)

I guess I'm not enough of a Spyderco devotee to understand why anyone would dislike the Volpe, although I can see it as something of a departure, stylistically. I also happen to think the Polliwog is gorgeous. And the Persian.

Anyway, good. Perhaps in a decade the Volpe will become valuable due to its scarcity.

That happens with pretty much all of them :) Welcome to the forums, I like the Volpes looks, haven't handled one but the ergos look up to the usual spyderco standard. (I think the poliwog looks terrible though ;) ).

I love the way the Volpe looks and feels, I'm just angry that it doesn't fit my hand! :( It is such a classy knife, oh well. I'm glad you're enjoying it, and welcome to the Spyderco forums.

Sorry, no. I got the Black Diamond to keep me from falling into moulins. ;-) I'm a glaciologist -- spent a summer placing and maintaining high-end GPS receivers on a glacier in Alaska.

hi Iceaxe, congrats on your Volpe!....as Zenheretic would say....a most misunderstood knife that is highly underated in my book! the Volpe packs a lot of edge inside the handle....and I am very impressed by the Italian craftsmanship! Oh yeah, welcome to the forums!

Welcome to the forums!
Regarding the Volpe - maybe you can be the first to do a little review of the knife, so others can learn to appreciate it...
And, most importantly: we need pictures with that review! :)
