I own many a SF light!! I also own a G2. I have a 6P, E2e, 2 E1e's, and a G2. They are excellent lights. My LED Fenix L1P is brighter than most of the SF's I own. I still LOVE my SF's.
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."
The G2 uses a 60 Lumens lamp assembly, P60, out of the box. That should last ~ 1 hour. You can replace that with a P61 assy. (Once they get them back in stock!) and that kicks it up to ~120 lumens with a 20 minute run time. There are LED conversion kits as well, which increase run time, but drop the lumens to do so.
These are VERY tough little lights. I have a G2, Z2 w/ P61, and an M3 Combatlight, and they ALL rock!

Surefires are excellent! They are pricey for their output compared to others and their incandescents also put a serious hurt on your battery account. I still use mine but find I'm getting better performance for price from my Streamilghts and the newer Inovas - the Inova XO3 in particular.
Also, the Luxeon 3 W LED conversion is now available as a drop in for Mag Lights as well as a lower power LED Mini-Mag cconversion. The Mag retains its lens and focusing ring and throws a decent beam. Full up 3 W LED D-Cell Mags (and the Mini Mag LED) are also being sold at Walmart, Frys, and other discount stores for right at $30.00.
Don't think that I'm down on Surefires....they are powerfull lights and I will be picking up one of their L4 or L5 Lumamax 5W LED gems shortly. It just pays to shop around and get more info.
Check out Candlepower Forums for reviews and tests as well as more info on the E1. I also recommend checking out Brite Guy for more info and pricing.

6z...
My Friend,
I have the 6Z Combatlight, and it is physically painful to look into the light, even in broad daylight, when activated.
They are wonderful non-lethal tools - after all, you can't hit what you can't see. :D

Surefire lights my way
I have the following surefire flashlights: 9an, L7, 6P, 9P and 2 of the E2d defenders. The one brother made a complaint about them eating a lot of batteries. But I have cured that problem by using my re-chargable units>> the 9an and the L7 LED unit. Both of them are great flashlights and you can even recharge them in you car with a lighter attachment.
I have been hearing lately that Inova, Fenix and a couple of others are giving them a run for their money but be assured that Surefire will be there in the long run. Their customer support is almost as good as that of Spyderco's. Plus Surefire is fabulous when you need batteries. Recently I ordered 3 dozen of them at 10:30 on a Monday morning and got them by 3:00pm on Tuesday afternoon. I would start out with a Surefire rechargable if you hack it. Plus they have lot of great stuff coming down their pipeline.
Oh by the way!! they are making some fabulous knives too

I have the G2 and am looking at upgrading to the 6P. The G2 is a good light to go with if your just going to go with the standard light. I'm hoping to get about 200 lumen out of it when I'm finished.
There is really nothing like the Surfire when comparing apples to apples IMHO. I've looked at other lights and they all offer something.
I did manage to get my Mag-Lite 2C to put out a better, brighter beam than my G2 w/P60, but it cost me almost twice as much to do it, and the bulb probably won't last as long.
All in all the G2 is an excellent light for what it offers.

First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

well i traded a Benchmade knife at work for the G2!!! haha. how is that for a spyderco forum... the spyderco bug bit me so long ago and i only on ONE other NON SPYDERCO knife... a BM presidio.. but i got rid of the rant bowie and got the G2 and 12 lithium batteries.. i only had like 40 in the rant from NGK anyways, so i came out on top.. now, when i carry my manix or chinook, i will have a killer flashlight on my person... i am pumped, cant wait for night fall!!!!
i just hate that the batteries die so fast...

You'll find that it will not be so fast. You see, the more light you have the less time you need to use it. I only change batteries once a month after a lot of use. Overall, it's more like once every 2 months. Ofcourse, I prefer longer lasting LEDs!spydermdz wrote:i just hate that the batteries die so fast...

I also have a couple of G2s and a 6P. They are excellent lights. I am very pleased with them. No regrets about the purchases and trades!
I have an Inova X0 as well, and although it may not be quite up to par with the SureFires, it is also a very good light. Longer run time, good output and and nice amount of throw for an LED light.
SureFire has a great reputation for a reason... same type of thing as Spyderco.
