OIF / OEF Program Information
OIF / OEF Program Information
First, let me start with a huge Thank you to all of you who have asked about this and to those of you who can participate!
For those of you not familiar with it, Spyderco has two programs, OIF and OEF. In these programs we select a number of active duty soldiers who submit their information to us in a lottery each month. The soldiers must be stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. Those selected receive a free knife, a tan Native with special engraving for Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. We've been doing this program since shortly after Operation Enduring Freedom began.
These knives are not available for sale to the general public. They are given away by Spyderco or they can be purchased at base MCCS stores or the Down Range stores at a discounted price.
Several of you have asked if you can participate and purchase a knife to be included in the program. If you would like to and are able to... here's how...
______________________________
Cost - $50.00 (the same price these are sold for in the MCCS)
Payment - Credit Card only (include the card number and the security code) - sorry we cannot do cash or checks, this is the easiest way to make this possible.
Email your information to me and include your name and mailing address (even if you think I already have it - emails come to me, but I may not be the person who processes these). My email is khunter@spyderco.com. Please make the subject line "OIF/OEF
Purchase".
You can also use snail mail, just send it to Spyderco, 820 Spyderco Way, Golden, CO, 80403. Please be sure to address it to my attention using my full name, Kristi Hunter.
You cannot specify anyone to receive the knife. We will continue to do our lottery and for each knife purchased, we will pull an additional name. The knife you purchase will go directly to someone stationed in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
You will receive via the mail a confirmation of your purchase with our thanks.
______________________________
Please understand this is not to solicit participation. We're not looking for the spotlight. We do this program because it's something we as Spyderco believe in doing, and will continue to do.
Thank you all for your support!
Kristi

Hi Kristi, this is an excellent program, thanks for allowing us the opportunity to participate. Perhaps, however, you would consider allowing information to be sent to your attention, or that of whoever is administering the program, via regular mail, rather than email. I have a very strong aversion to including credit card numbers in emails, and believe I am not alone in that regard.

That would be fine too. :) I've edited the original post.

Kristi, thanks very much for allowing the "snail mail" alternative. Email, while fast and convenient, is somewhat risky at best for transmitting credit card numbers, and extremely risky for anyone using a computer that others have access to.TazKristi wrote:Paul,
