Jester and Spin..

#1

Post by Dannyvi »

How about a jester with a better blade like a VG10??? ;) I wish the Spin had more hump in the back with ridges for thumb push.

IIRC Sal mentioned they would be doing that. Take a gander at the Spin, it's tiny and has a VG-10 blade.

Just saw your edit.

Personally I like the Jester's grooves at the tip and the three finger grooves on the handle. For many guys the Jester is too small to get those three fingers on. I wish the Spin had the 3 finger grip that the Jester does, I still try and hold the Spin with 3, even though it doesn't work quite as well as the Jester.

I wonder if the Spin clip (or any other small working clip) would be able to be added to the VG-10 Jesters, I'd love that.

Wow, today I was just trying to figure out how a clip could be added to a jester, and here you are talking about it. Sure would be cool to me too- a clip knife so small and friendly it couldn't afend anyone, but still able to do the job :)

HAHA, I really doubt you have to worry Zen, I don't actually think there would ever be a clip on one of these babies (amazing collection by the way  ). As for the steel upgrade, I am looking forward to that as much as any other knife news I've heard in a long time! Now back to looking at all those Jesters........

There is a seller on eBay that gets the web engraved. The seller sold them for an extra $5-10.

Short answer: super rare on ebay.

Long answer: Welllllllll, there used to be a great ebay seller who commissioned Spyderco to engrave them...and of course the seller sold them on ebay. That seller disappeared about 6 months ago, I believe named Razorsharpknives. Deacon or Rock correct me if I'm wrong (or others who remember). You can commission :spyder: yourself, but I believe the set up is $50. Obviously you have to supply the knife/knives for the engraving, not sure of other details.

ZH, your explaination is correct. The only part I'm not sure of is the last. Since the design is a "stock" Spyderco one, I'm not certain if the set-up fee applies, or if there would just be a per-piece charge for the actual engraving. IIRC, the set-up fee is only for custom designs. Joyce or Kristi should be able to give a definitive answer to that.

Oh now that is a tantalizing thought, part two of that question is if we can provide our own knife for the service or do we have to buy from SFO?

Not sure, imagine that might be more of a headache for them. But perhaps the order could be placed through your regular dealer, which would really be the best way to do it.

I'd go for that...and the dealer gets a bit too so it is a win, win, win situation.

You might try attaching a Photon with a medium diameter split ring (I used one a little smaller than a dime) to the lanyard hole of you Spin. Adds a nice chunk for your third finger to grab on to without really adding any weight or much bulk.

Sorry that the pic isn't any better.

Good thread...I've gotta agree...heck even using the Byrd steel 8Cr...etc....would be far superior to the AUS6 IMO!
