The Wetlands ate another one

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

This is an eerrie repeat of what happened to me in the fall of 04. I was working in the Wetlands of North Missouri ( one of my jobs) and I sudden realized that when we completed some work that my plain edged Merlin was indeed missing. This makes 2 of my dearly beloved Hawkbills that the Wetlands has stripped me of.

I lost a SE Spyderhawk in the fall of 04 and now I have lost a PE Merlin ( not easily replacible). It is stuff like this that truly robs me of my tranquillity and makes me wonder if this is some sort of punishment for the sins I committed as a teenager

Nonetheless the Wetlands has eaten another one ( buy why Hawkbills  ). I have to go back next week. Yep you're right>> I am going to lookinto investing in a metal detector. There is something spooky about losing 2 Hawkbills in the same locale. I need a shoulder to cry on  . More importantly I need a couple of replacement Hawkbills :o

boy that really stinks!

what about some form of lanyard that attaches it to your belt, jacket, etc? that way if it slipped out of a pocket or something it would be tethered to you...

Sorry to hear about your loss. PE no less. Sounds like you need some Tasman Salts when you go there next time.

My Friend,

I am terribly sorry about your losses. Even if you can replace them, I know how attached one can get to a particular knife based on your past with it, where and from whom it was obtained, etc. :(

And yes, a Tasman Salt would be best. At least then there will be something left to find with a metal detector later!

If you need a metal detector for a while, J.D., drop me an e-mail. I have a small, lightweight inexpensive one that might fit the bill you are more than welcome to use if you would rather not invest in one right now.

Ouch, that sucks... :(

Sounds like the wetlands feels it's time for a new Hawkbill like we do ;)

What a bummer Joe... I have switched to large lanyards on some of my beloved spydies just to avoid something like this... Good luck in the search... who knows ya may come up with last years loss... That will be a test with Missouri weather on a ATS-55 or what ever steel your hawk was...?? Let us know how the search goes....

What's weird about this is the fact that I pride myself in being pretty good at not losing things. I guard my blades with a zealous fervor only comparable to a mother protecting a child. My plain edged Merlin had recently been getting a lot heavy use. And when you are working on chain saws and other power equipment you wouldn't believe how handy they can be.

Right after losing it I came upon a 5 foot long ( no exaggeration) Black Rat Snake. What was weird about that was that particular variety of snake will normally run from you and do what they can to avoid you. But this snake looked me in the eye for about 3 minutes. IT was as though he was trying to tell me something.

I notice that the animals in the wetlands that day were all acting a bit strange. Earlier I had a big doe run along side of my ATV as though she was playing with me. She couldn't have been over 30 feet away from me. Normally deer are terrified of us when we go into the wetlands. My boss also saw very big BLACK Rat snake that same day in a different part of the wetland.

Oh well I guess the only thing that was really important is how to replace my Merlin. I have another one new in the box but they are getting so rare I will probably end up using one of my yellow Tasmans instead. I will think about the "lanyard suggestion" that the one brother mentioned>> that is something I have been wanting to get into and learn more about. I have downloaded most of the big lanyard thread. I guess I am saying that the entire day didn't make much sense. But maybe that one Racoon I see a lot of on the main levy now has a more efficient way of opening his clam shells
