2 questions for anyone who has carried a Kiwi

#1

Post by LukeC »

I really like the Kiwi design, and just wanted to ask those with more experience-

1) Are they people friendly? I love the way they look (and feel) and they don't look agressive to me, but then I've seen them so often. They sure are a unique shape- how do non-knife people react?

2) Are they strong? The part where the blade and handle meet is so small! Do they still end up pretty solid?

Thanks for any thoughts :)

my mom is not big on knives and she likes the kiwi. IMO its definitly sheeple friendly.

lockup is very solid. of course, this is not a manix or a lil temp, but for its uses it is very good. i also thought it looked flimsy but it is not.

There are some here that are big kiwi fans, they will chime in shortly :D

1) Most of the time that depends more on the person than the knife. I've never had anyone react badly to me pulling one out to cut something. In fact come to think of it I've never really even had any reaction. I think it's so small (relatively speaking) that only the most rabid anti-knife person would kick up a fuss.
2) Mine is as solid as a rock, I've never really put it to the test of course but it doesn't look like it's going to snap unless you do something crazy with it.

Great little knife the Kiwi...

I'm crazy about the Kiwi, have a slew of them. The are about as people friendly as a knife can get. Almost all non-knife people accept them as being a pocket knife like grandpa carried. The small group of people who assume anyone carrying a knife of any kind is bent on mayhem, would not be any less fearful if you were "armed" with a SAK.

As far as strength goes I've used several of mine to open some fairly "idustrial strength" clampacks. I think you're more likely to pass one on down to your kids than break it, unless you as it to do things no pocket knife was intended to do.

I totally agree with what everyone has said. I was a little hesitant in buying one because of its small size. It "acts" like a bigger knife and is kind of a modern Spyderco answer to a slipjoint look. It absolutely will make no one wince and you will be extremely please with it.

I think I EDC'd my SS Kiwi at work for about two years. Only recently did I replace it with the Kopa series.

The Kiwi is VERY people-friendly, especially if you start with two-handed openings in public. Give the uninitiated some time to adjust. :D

The lock is still very solid, no noticeable play. And that's after cutting wire, heavy boxes, clamshell packages, plastic etc....

Here's an older review I did on the SS Kiwi.

I'd love to see the Red Bone Kiwi come out.

Solid little knife for sure. If you can get a Jigged Bone go for it..much more traditional looking, fits my hand better than the SS one too.

Great little pocket knife.

I carry my Kiwi as an EDC to work very often. There's a lot of cutting power in a small package and the knife fits the hand like a glove.
Unless you are going to use it as a pry bar :-( the Kiwi should be tough enough for any EDC task
