Resurrect The MOUSE~~NOW!!!

#1

Post by JD Spydo »

This just simply belongs in this slot. I have brought it over from Off TOPIC to put this issue in a serious light. The other thread is dealing with and talking about the Blade-Tech MOUSE. OK glad they got one>> GOD Bless them. But this is something we want and I feel we who love the MOUSE deserve. I want one with Spydie's picture/image on it  ~~ Bring Back The Spyderco MOUSE!!! It is a classic sleeper that needs to be awoke with a new handle material and a new blade steel like ZDP-189, D-2 or CPM 10V. What about A Titanium MOUSE~~ How cool could that be? I don't think I'm alone on this one :spyder:

Don't you think by asking for nearly every disco'd model to be brought back in ZDP-189 you are kinda hurting your quest? I don't want to sound mean but it seems like every few days there is a new thread about how you know X model will sell great and really just needs to be marketed properly and made with ZDP-189. I'd venture a guess that there are reasons why X model is disco'd. You have to remember the forums are not the average buyer, most people don't care about ZDP-189, nor do they want to pay the increased price for it.

I don't want to seem mean about it. Just suggesting you pick a quest to take instead of proposing a new model be resurrected every day with a few choice mods.

They made the Ocelot, maybe we'll see an updated mouse in the future. While I don't know how well will it sell, in ZDP or other more or less exotic steel, I do know I'd love one. Prefferably in G-10 (just like the BladeTech's)instead of aluminium, with a compression lock (and an open construction).

This I'd buy. I don't see a reason to jack the price up with exotic steels though, but then again, I never do. :o

If I'm not mistaking, Blade-Tech currently owns the rights to make the Mouse, not Spyderco. So if we want a Mouse with a circular hole, we'll have to ask Blade-Tech first.

Spyderco has such a sterling reputation for having the very best small knives in the entire industry. More often than not when I ask someone I know what their favorite Spyder is they most often tell me it is one of their small blades i.e. the Dodo, The Kiwi, The Kopa, Mini Dyad Jr., Cricket and so forth.

Their line up of super good quality small knives is no mystery to anyone who is knowledgable about quality production knives. To make the point further they are very good hard use knives as well. Which unfortunately is not the case with a lot of other small knives out there. This could be the Come Back of the Year if we could convince the Great Spyder Factory to take a serious look at this. The demand and timing would really coincide this go around.

Plus as neat as that knife is it would be great in G-10, Titanium or a plethora of other modern handle materials. So Why NOT?

I think Ted is right about the Ocalot being the only Wegner design that Spyderco owns.I think Wenger has allways owned the Mouse and just had Spyderco produce it for them.

I'm fortunate enough to own one, and it is a great little tool! Now a G10 version would be really nice! :D

My advise, grab a G-10 Mouse 2 from Blade-Tech. Has everything you want...

It would be illegal is my guess. I know Sal has mentioned that the Ocelot is the only one left that they own. I can't imagine Blade-Tech allowing Spyderco to make the Mouse, that would a conflict of interests.

I'd love a Mouse myself, but they are too rare for me to track one down just to ding it up and lose the resale value. I'd get the Blade-Tech version but the hole and clip IMO are major steps down from the Spyderco version.

Over a year ago in this thread on BladeForums:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showt ... ght=wegner

Sal said:
"Tim Wegner now owns the patent rights for the Full sized Wegner design and the "mouse" version."

To me this makes a "resurrection" of the mouse by Spyderco very unlikely at best.

The Blade-Tech Mouse is very good quality though it has a different feel to it on opening. Not better or worse, just different. Blade-Tech has a Carbon Fiber version that is very nice. The inexpensive version is also a very good knife for the cost. I can't see Spyderco going back to knife production of the Mouse based on design being owned by Tim Wegner at Blade-Tech which produces the knife now. Having a knife design change hands can be a very complicated issue involving sensitive negotiation. Though I can't speak for either company, based on what I know, I can't imagine Spyderco remaking the Mouse at this time. If you want a new Mouse I would strongly recommend the Blade-Tech version, or shop around for an older Spyderco Mouse.

I really doubt we will see it also from Spyderco. I do like the Blade-Tech one. The hole is really big though for such a small blade. Still, I may get one.

I am convinced that you used to be a politician ;) I love that "If I say it with enough conviction, it must be true" attitude. I imagine it takes a great deal of balance to stand on so many soapboxes at once
