Perils of the Persian

#1

Post by Huu »

I know I'm not the first to loose a Persian, Eh Chad.
The first week of September, after seeing this web site: http://www.solisearch.net/ims/album.php?u_id=11165k5MDt , I mailed Mike MacIntosh a new Spyderco Persian and payment for him to modify the handle scales. After a few months of apparently avoiding my repeated attempts to communicate, and finally - proven deciet, Mike finally admited that he couldn't do the work and he would refund my payment, and send a new Persian to me. That was over two weeks past. I still have not seen a refund or Persian and I suspect I will not, with the expletives I endured on the phone today, and was hung up on.
If any one has had any similar experience with this craftsman or is aware of any recourse avasilable in this situation, please advise.

Hey Huu,

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

You might want to post about this on the good, bad, and ugly forum over on Bladeforums. I don't know if this person is a member there, but at the very least it would serve to warn the community.

You may be able to get some input from people who've dealt with him in the past.

I know it doesn't help now, but http://www.chaxknives.com/ does some fine production mods. If you are still looking to get a Persian modified in the future.

Thanks for the supportive words spydutch, VultureParade, CopilotATS-55
I've posted information on this on seven different forums, including bladeforums. I've been contacted by others that are in the same situation with Mike as I am. Just goes to show that you should do a little research before you jump into a deal. Mike's situation right now seems to be very complicated, but I hope he will eventually do the right thing, with everyone.
But as it stands now I won't ever deal with him again and I wouldn't recomend him to anyone else.
I may have given up on a Persian with g-10 scales, the micarta is definately a classier finish. Besides I'm really happy with the Chinook II. It combines well with a Dodo for EDC.

Aloha Huu,

Whoa bro, I *found* my Persian though...**** man, keep us posted please. I recall a thread where a buncha guys got their knives very late, but they got 'em. Hopefully, such will be the case with you.

God bless and take care my friend.

Thanks Chad, but it looks pretty bleak. The more people I talk to that have delt with Mike recently, the worse the picture gets of this guy.

That sucks!! I hate when these things happen!! I Once had a tactical instructer who always used to say " was anybody killed or wounded?....No! then Move on its all OK" I know this doesn't help much, if you have been ripped off. But for me it always helps put things in perspective.
