No unfortunately it's not real :rolleyes:
Just a quick (and ugly) 5 minute edit using microsoft paint to see how a civilian would look with a military sized hole, compression lock and wave. :D
Thought it came out quite well so I decided to share it with you all in the hope that sal reads this and decides to update the civilian.
I don't know if I'd be confortable pulling a wave with a civillian, but I haven't tried any waved knives, so I don't know.... If you had an accident it would be a bad one :eek:
IMO, the bigger hole and the wave "dent" make the blade very fragile. I dont think the civie needs any updates, particularly not in this way. Just my angle of sight.
But what I would like to see is a an urban civie, so blade around 3 inch., maybe FRN or G10 handle, an idea of Civilian Jr.
The Dodo is close to it, but I am thinking something more "classical". Lets say a delica handle with civie blade, smaller civie blade, its more a Matriarch Jr.
Any suggestions?

I've carried my Civilian waved with a ziptie for a year or so now and have had no accidents. I think that when you wave a blade like the Civilian you keep safety formost in your mind, keenly aware that it rends rather than cuts.
I do realise that you were just maybe having some fun, and I am always appreciative of people being innovative, and creative with especially knife design, however I have to state my view on your modifications, and do not wish to be critical;
That Spyderhole is way too big!!!, and maybe even the wave too deep, however I know you were not aiming at producing a 1:1 scale representation, however similar to what 224477 stated, your modifications have left a blade which looks extremely weak and the large hole covers more than half the blade's width (even though not too scale), yet there is hardly any metal left, and also IMO, the spyderhole on the Civilian is perfect, and a larger one would not be beneficial.
Also, the Civilian was designed for individuals whom have had no knife defensive training, thus the wave mechanism is not really designed to be used by non-knife peoples, and those whom the Civilian was designed for, are not the type of people whom practice deploying their knives rapidly, nor are they the types whom would be waving any knife altogether IMHO.

Something in the back of mind mind tells me that a wave and a big hole don't mix well. I remember I saw on this forum a home made wave that included the hole and it was something interesting...
Couldn't find it, so I tried to draw it... Please be forgiving!!!

Great idea.. When FRN, I would like the handle (and choil) of the Rescue 79mm. When G10, the handle(and choil) of the Paramilitary would be great.

I think it could work with the smaller hole. The grind being thin and the hole being big is a recipe for a broken blade IMO although some companies do push the limits in how they make blades and how thin and close the tolerances are. Look at this Protech Godson blade. Note how the back side is machined out for a recess that the spring sits in. It gets real thin at two points on this blade but I've never read of any breaks happening with them. Even still when I first saw it I was astounded at how thin it was in places. Almost scary thin to me.

It is not necessary to do extraordinary things in life but only to do ordinary things extraordinarily well.
Thanks for sharing your idea with us Ruxton! I appreciate the ingenuity of the wave, but I would probably hurt myself play with a Waved Civi! Am I the only one who thinks the wave cutout looks like a bottle opener? :p
No I think it looks like a bottle opener too, I've been testing the civilian with a zip-tie wave, feels good. the wave in that picture is waaay too big and the hole is also oversized, I'm getting very tempted to attack my civilian with a file...
EDIT: here's something a little more reasonable
