D'Allara Rescue opinions

#1

Post by bodz »

I'm looking at the D'Allara Rescue as a good strong knife. It looks tough and has an amazing lock and cutting edge. I don't see much out there for information on it, opinions, stories, etc..

Anybody out there got one? If so, what can you say about it?

Thanks :)

Bodz,

I have one; it handles beautifully, is very heavy duty, and cuts like a demon. I got mine after purchasing a WTC knife; because I saw the potential of that one as a worker, but of course couldn't (wouldn't) use the WTC for duty/emergency use.

I have never handled an Assist model, so I can't help you with a comparison, gut I can tell you that if you get the D'Allara, you will not be disappointed.

and, BTW, welcome to the forum!

To be honest, you get a lot of knife for the money. I was surprised at the price I had to pay for this, a lot less than I thought it would be!

It is a big hand filling knife. If that is what you need, then go for it. It fills the hand well, feels good, has good heft.

If you need a big strong rescue knife, this is the ticket...

Its a heavy duty knife. If the D'allara cant cut it, it cant be cut. :D

Big handle, which to me is it only downfall. It just seems to big for EDC, for me anyways. I would rather suggest looking at one of the other rescue models. They will provide much the same cutting ability, but be a bit nicer for EDC.

But if you dont mind a slightly larger handle in your pocket and you're after a hard working, no nonsense knife, it will do the job nicely.

Hello, and welcome to the forum! I don't have the model, but I have a Dodo with the ball-lock and I am very pleased with it! I've always liked the rescues, and am considering getting one of these.

I have one. It's a tank, and the price is half of what it could be.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so this is my first post on here...

I have a WTC, and a D'Allara Rescue, and can say the knife is a great (big) knife. I don't carry it because it is a little bulky for daily carry IMO, but I keep it in the truck just in case. The ball lock is different than what I'm used to with my Delica SS, but seems to be a very sturdy locking device.

I got mine on ebay (brand new in box) for $29 including shipping.

I won one off of ebay sometime back with the intention of making my work carry. I ended up selling it to a co-worker and my Millie found its way back in my pocket.

Pros:
> Built like a brick-you-know-what
> Extremely smooth opening
> Heavy duty lock
> Great steel (VG10) with a very beefy blade
> An extremely slip-resistant grip surface

Cons:
> Ball-bearing lock was a little difficult for my fingers
> Not a big fan of the wire clip but it'll hold securely in the pocket
> Agressive checkering rough on pants pocket
> BIG in the pocket

The guy I sold it to loves it. Its really an awesome knife, it's just that I can't seem to part with my Millie for EDC (at least till I get a Para- or a Manix!)

The first thing i did w/ my D'Allara was 86 the clip. I put a long square sinnet fob on it for quickdraw from the pocket. From there my thoughts are that for the money i couldnt believe how much knife it is. It is solid as a rock, opens smooth, the SS liners add a good amount of weight but also are one of the main reasons it is so solid. The ball bearing lock is sound and is easy to get used to. The VG-10 blade is quite aggressive and will cut through just about anything. I can honestly say that when the DP comes out that it will see a lot of use on my end. Hope that helps some.
