Hello, Nau. Welcome to the forum!

I certainly agree with you that the Wegner is a good knife. Don't own a Starmate -- yet -- but a great many forumites swear by them. Frankly, it is hard to go wrong with a Spydie.

Sometimes, when asking advice about a specific knife, it would be helpful to others if you could give us a general idea of how you expect to use your new knife.

Some knives are very utilitarian, while others were designed with more specific purposes in mind. From what I've read, tho, the Starmate is fairly flexible, and is used in a wide variety of ways.

The Starmate's a good all-rounder. It makes a great utility piece when you are out in the woods. I think the winner here, is the good blade geometry, premium steel and lightweight thermoplastic handles. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Nao,

I am a Spyderco distributor which allows me to carry any model I choose. Since 1988 I carried a C07S Police. When the C55GPE Starmate was introduced I felt it would be the best that Spyderco had for EDC.

My feelings haven't changed - it is still my EDC and I use it for box cutting, tape cutting, yard work, cleaning fish (halibut, albacore, yellowtail, bass, etc) and anything else without hesitation.

You won't go wrong with the Starmate.

I agree with the other guys. The Starmate is a great knife and I find it to be better balanced than the Wegner. I carry mine in a Mike Sastre neck sheath.
