What do you think of serrations?

What does everyone think about serrations on folding knives? I find half-serrated to be just enough to get in the way, unless the blade is of sufficient size to allow the straight portion to be used.

For example, I have a Gerber Chameleon II with 50-50 serrations, and the blade is small enough, they kind of get in my way. However, my Endura is large enough, I can use the plain edge easily without slipping onto the serrated portion.

So what does everyone prefer? Half-Serrations, full serrations, no serrations, or something in between?

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I find EDC is better with PlainEdge, but camping ones are better with just over 50/50(ie 35/65, 40/60(p/s). Serrations are good for heavy use, but not daily requirements.

I have put my Delica, my EDC of 2yrs, away after I got my Wegner jr. It's just the right size, and perfect amount of PlainEgde(1.25), while still offering a good amount of serrations(1.5).

The amount we need just depends on what we use.

We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...

For EDC - plain edge as mentioned above (serrations only if you are professional rope cutter :D )
Combo edge on average length folding knife isn't very useful IMHO. In combo edge serrated part of blade is to short to be useful. With serrated folder I'd go for full serrations. The only problem with full serrations is that on some knives it's very close to tip, so it reduces knife piercing ability. There has to be some short part with plain edge. Good example of perfectly done full serrations is Spyderco Military.
That's my 0.02 $...

All but a couple of my folders are plain edged. I don't own any fully serrated blades, except the one in my Dyad. I carried a CRKT M16-14 for about 18 months. Never did do a lot of cutting with it. When I did, used forward, plain, part of blade. I think for self defense, partial or full serrations could prove useful. Certainly some work tasks performed by people daily do better with serrations. But, by and large, a plain edge which is sharp is the most versatile. One can sharpen blades with polished front ends and a toothier edge toward the rear, and have the best of all worlds.

Oh -- I also have a combo Walker Ltwt.

I do remember a magazine article approximately 20-24 mos ago, that recommended full serrations for self defense, to ensure the ability to cut through leather jackets, gloves, etc.
