Emerson Knives was kind enough to license Spyderco to make "Waved" versions of the New Endura 4 and Delica 4. They should be out early '06.

They are "mega-waves".

Excellent....I love my Waved Endura 3! Can't wait to get both of the new ones.

I'm convinced that despite the lack of the mbc rating the current waved endura is the best self-defense knife Spyderco has because it can be drawn so quickly. Any chance to get a waved mbc class knife?

Sooner than I expected. I had heard this was coming. Is the ATR MBC rated? Because I think the one I Waved for a fellow forum member was one sweet knife when I finished it. If it has that rating on the compression lock it would be a fine choice for the Waved MBC model in my opinion. HINT HINT!

Hold on, doesn't that mean the Waved models will come out at the same time as the regular(new) models?

I wonder how that will impact sales???

It almost seems like competing with oneself.

YES!!! I'm very excited for the waved Delica! Already have 2 waved Enduras and love them but while I'm in college in DC I need a <3" blade so I always carry a Delica. The new Delica 4 looks pretty good although I'd rather have a pointier tip but with a wave it could definitely become my new EDC.

Think of it this way:
Endura/Delica= Turkey Hoagie :)
Endura/delica Wave= Turkey Hoagie with onions and peppers!!! :D

Are these going to be available through any dealer or only SDG? I just received a passaround Endura. This is the first waved knife I have played with, though I'd seen a partial wave effect with the cobra hood. I cannot imagine a faster opening knife. Knowing that it is already open, I need to adjust my grip a little more carefully after drawing the knife so I'm not sure how much faster it is to deploy. I am sure with practice it can be faster than any one-hand or auto opener. Pretty smart for the right applications.

I knew that the Wave license was under discussion from previous discussions, but nice to see it came through. Not much of a wave fan myself, but on a Delica I'll try it out.

I'm here to tell you that the Wave works very well on the Spyderco knives. They were made for it. Due to the position of the Wave being farther toward the front of the blade on the Spydercos it is easier to lift up and open the blade using the Wave because it takes less effort and you have more leverage. As a result the Waved Spyderco is easier on the pocket than the factory Waved Emerson. Just like if you imagine opening the blade of a knife from reaching all the way back toward the pivot on the blade vs pinching it up toward the middle or tip of the blade to open it. The Wave just works easier on the Spydies because of the better leaveraged forward position . This is based on my own observations of course and subject to debate but after modifying and playing with several brands that I've Waved now I like the Spyderco models the best. They seem easier to control when I want the blade open and when I don't also.

Not to say that Ernies knives don't work. They sure do and they work fine, so do some of the BenchMades I've done. If pocket wear is a concern I'd suggest the Waved Spyderco over a Waved Emerson though. Not that you won't see pocket wear from either because you will but in my experience the Emersons are harder on pockets as is any knife I modify with a Wave that has it mounted farther back on the blades.

Visual comparions

Post by STR »

Here are some visuals for comparison of Wave positions. The more forward position ones just seem to work easier to open the blades in my opinion. These Spyderco Waved knives are going to be a big hit I think. The Spyder "hump" doesn't hurt a thing either, and in fact helps to allow a good high spot for the position of the Wave making it easier to catch the pocket when you need the blade opened on exit of your knife.

Here are some pics of both factory Waved ones and ones I did showing the positions. If you just imagine the difference in force needed to open each blade with your fingernail from the position of the Wave it is a no brainer which ones will open the easiest and which ones will be slightly harder to get moving.

Here you can really get a view of the height advantage the Factory Waved Spyderco has.

Hey thanks STR that is really good info as I have never tried an emerson wave only the Spyderco. The pictures really help, I think on the new delicas and enduras it will be close to perfect. I think those original waved Enduras may become more valuable as time passes as only 500 made. I used mine a bunch when I first got it, but now I will wait for the new ones.

I wonder how the wave feature will work with the new handle design. I believe it will be rather difficult to improve on the current Waved Endura but I will definitely try both the new Waved Endura and Delica. I am not sure how much the breakdown of SDF hindered the sales of the current model but I am most surprised they are still available up to now. I must admit I haven't been using the spyderhole much ever since I got my first one.

Probably not very well if you have the clip in tip-down mode. :D

If that happens I will just return it of course. They can't expect me to be able to reverse it myself.
