Going Price on Worker and Hunter?

#1

Post by TurnerIII »

I was out and about today and came across a nice Worker and a good Hunter -

They seemed a little high at $60 for the Worker but the Hunter was better at $45. However I have no idea what the going rate is - or for that matter what a good price would be -

So what are you seeing them going for out there where you live?

Thanks

Not to be a wiseguy, but whats the going rate for a Ford Mustang and a Chevy Cavalier? You're talking knives that were made for a number of years, in a number of variations, not to mention condition, and whether or not it has a box. $60 for a Worker could be overpriced, or the bargain of the century. Fewer rare "high ticket" variants on the Hunter, but still too little info for a meaningful answer.

Thank you Deacon

I am just trying to get a ball park for these two items - a range if you will. They both were in good but not excellent consition, blades look good and not messed with. No boxes - so I was feeling they are quite a bit on the high side - the Worker was marked $85 and he came down to the $60 value as a "real deal"

So I passed - I think I could do better on the acution sights....

Thanks

I hear you Turner, but "ballpark" still incudes everything from a squib butt to putting one into the nosebleed seats.

Example, among my workers there is one I paid $40, NIB condition except for a bit of tip damage, perfect, it would be worth probably $100 or so, as it is, I may well have overpaid. Have another one, a "two screw", probably first year's production, that I just bought in mint condition. One like it, even in pretty poor condition, would be worth well over $60.

So say $40 to $300 for a Worker, $30 to maybe $150 for a Hunter depending on exactly what variant it is and its condition.

Thanks again Deacon

Wow this is a new market for me and it is interesting! Quite the range - I will need to get better educated before I start playing too hard. :D

Thanks again for your honest and frank opinion. The sooner I learn these things the better.

Roger, for some unknown reason, that one has yet to excite collectors very much. Average price in NIB condition has been around $90 for the longest time. Anything less conditionwise and the price drops rapidly. Have actually suggested one of these as a cost saving alternative to an original Tufram Worker when someone was looking for an aluminum Worker for EDC.

Thanks for the info..I am surprised..I probably should have held on to my old one and very first Spyderco..but who knew..I liked the action of the Commemerative better.

They are a well made, smooth actioned knife, so they actually make a good user.

Please do keep in mind that any estimates of "value" are educated guesses based on past performance, nothing more. Lately prices have been so unpredictable that I almost hestiate to quote figures at all. In the last 24 hours have watched a pink FRN Delica and a PE black handled "bug" pattern Q bring prices that flat out astounded me. The next Commemartive Worker to go under the gavel could fetch $200, or not.
