"103"

Post by Silvercall »

Hello, I just received a Viele II in the mail today. Nice Knife :) I noticed on the "bolster" it says "103". Anyone know what that means or stands for? or is "103" on all the Viele knives? thanks,

-Jay

It is a collector's club number, like the 043 on the one below . Some of them wind up being sold to "non-members" as some of the collectors are no longer active.

When a model is offered in more that one way, (like plain and serrated edge, or multiple colors, some (all except one) of any given number will have a V suffix to show they are Variants

Nice pics (as usual) Deacon. I have one (maybe stupid) question. I have an Atlantic Salt/SE (black FRN) but I can't see a number on it. It has "Atlantic Salt" engraved in the blade though.

only the first 200 knives of the batch are numbered nowadays (used to be more), the rest (like yours) doesn't have a number... :)

Exactly Alex, only around 200 of the "foundation" varaint get numbered. It is my understanding that considerably fewer (not sure of the exact figure) of the variants with the V suffix are made, as not all collectors originally signed up for "all variants" and only the "subscribed" numbers are engraved. With the Atlantic and Pacific Salts, and other models with engraved names on the blade, the name is engraved on all of them, not just the numbered ones.
