Spyderco and the Identity crises

#1

Post by Sinbad »

Why will the Manix and ATR fail

Because Spyderco is having an identity crises.
Its trying to make overbuilt tank knives like the manix. The Manix does not look good. The manix is not well finished. So is the manix trying to compete with strider there? Ok Lets say you want to build the next tank knife, Do you choose a lock back?

A Lockback is great for a small folder but a large folder will have blade play.

Ok

I got It ,

I have lots of fans

I can get away with anything

I will compete with Sebenza

Here comes the ATR

Really nice knife, nice Blade but did u have choose that handle shape to remind people it’s a Spyderco?

Sal,

Full respect
You got one real fan here
But go back to see ahead.

Sinbad,

You really seem wired to a Mars bar! There are some blanket statements you've made and I'm curious as to how much genuine experience you have had with either the Manix or ATR?

Mine are draw queens because of UK EDC legalities, but I have buddies that have used them extensively as work tools without the slightest hint of your point of view.

Go on, enlighten me.

Firstly, you have to go a might further before you have the honour to call me friend.

Secondly, answer the question.

B4 this starts turning into a fight lets ask a simple question what market is it made for? IMHO Spyderco is doing what it's doing for a reason. Be it to compete w/ another "TANK OF A KNIFE" or not. Spyderco's style has no falt w/ me in handle ergo or blade design. Infact I'm happy Sal is involved w/ so many makers and designers.

You can't make %100 of the ppl happy %100 of the time

OK

I think we should think why we all like Spyderco and stick to it unless we can do better than others.

Choose your audience.

And when you compete, compete with the spyderco spirit
That is, make better

Or

Stay home

Don’t try at all

I think that believing that Spyderco is better than everything else is blind faith or belonging to a cult or a commune.

I'm really confused. Why do you participate in the :spyder: forum, if you continue to bash it as much as you do???
Special thanks to Bill W. for all of his inspiration and guidance.

Do you know Bill ?

I have a Manix and really like it. Could it be better? sure it could

Is it perfect? no

But it is more than a great knife at $120.

I do not have blind faith in Spyderdco, I have not bought many knives because of different issues with the knives. The latest being the Spyker, the lock was finished horribly on that knife. I am more into custom folders, my latest addiction being Mayo knives. But Spyderco does make a great product at the price point.

Ok I like spyderco because of the wide spread of designs and the collective know how I see in each new Spyderco I pick up. As a QC Person @ my job I like the fact that the QC carries over from knife to knife I buy.I've owned other knifes but those are Not what I reach for every morning I leave to go into the wilderness we all call life.

I say no, I own a few Spyderco's, but the majority of my knives cost over $700 each. It is just easier to use a $100 knife than it is a $700 knofe.

someone once said: "everything's relative"

for some people with a decent pay it'll be the most expensive knife they'll ever get and others will have about 200 of them in their drawers...
