Did you do the work on the handles, and thumb ramp?
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Looks nice! Did you use power tools or did you file it by hand?

BTW: The Pelican is on the market now? I am asking because I couldn't find it anywhere on the net and this is the first Byrd that got my interest. May I ask where you got yours from?

Cheers, Rob

VW, I've seen it on the Byrd sell sheet and since then I am waiting that it pops up somewhere :( NGK doesn't seem to have any of the Byrds, local shopkeepers here in Austria look like this if you ask for Byrd:  and if you Google for it you (or at least me) only get results for the Meadowlark, Cara Cara etc. and Spyderco itself does not list it in their online catalog. That's why I asked :D

If anyone knows a trustworthy online-source for them I am all ears...

swords.ca is my local, just email Darren and ask about prices and availability on anything.

hi guys,
I got the pelican at the SFO. Did all the work myself. Used a dremmel for the chimping? as well as for modifying the finger choil. It fits in my hand great now, with the finger choil providing extra control and a more natural hand position. The chimping? adds a lot of traction and takes away the slickness of stainless steel handles. It's been in my pocket since I worked on it. before it was sitting in it's box for a month, because it didn't feel quite right in my hand.

Hi Rob,
Byrd knives are listed seperately from Spyderco on New Graham's website.
The link is on the right side of the homepage. I believe they carry all their models.

Rob,
NKG does have the byrds, all the current ones are listed on thier site. Look on the right side of the home page under "Byrd Knives", which is in red, and right underneath the Chris Reeve logo.

Hanswurst and ghostrider:

Image Maybe I should have read the site first before using the "search" option (that of course came up with nothing). Thanks for guiding me to NGK's offer of Byrd knives. Sometimes the ability to read has clearly advantages :D

hanswurst,
Can you tell what process you used for paint? Type of paint, primer, did you do any prep such as roughing the surface before painting?

Can you also tell what type of tool you used on the Dremel?

Also, any possibility of more detailed pics? The lighting makes it look like a silhouette. don't get me wrong, I think the pic looks reallly cool (almost like one of Simona's). It's just that I'd like to get a better look at the details of the knife.

hi Ghostrider,
224477 is right, I was just joking. it is not painted yet. it was late and i couldn't get any halfway decent pictures inside, so i used a table lamp with a piece of paper in front of it to back light the knife.
I tried to do a swirly finish with a wirebrush attachment (looks really cool on sheetmetal) but it didn't turn out so good. so next i'll attempt to paint it, but don't know when i'll get to it.
here's another picture with a little more light:
