Spyker So Good, I Decided To Put The Spyker Back In My Edc After I Unzipped Its Pouch, What A Diamond This Knife Is And I Feel This Will One Day Be A Highly Sought After Piece. I Decided It Would Be A Shame To Not Use This Knife. I Originally Was Going To Edc It And Just Thought Its To Nice And Put It Away, But Now Its Coming Back! #9

Nice pics #9.
Those closeups show some very good detail.
Thanks.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

YOU GET USED TO IT. I DONT MIND. BUT I THINK TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE KNEW WHAT THE KNIFE WAS ABOUT. ON ONE HAND I SEE YOUR POINT, BUT THE BEAUTY OF THIS KNIFE IS IN HOW IT OPENS, FAST ACTION AND HOW IT FEELS, WHEN I TOOK IT OUT OF ITS POUCH AND SNAPPED IT OPEN I WAS LIKE... WHY DID I PUT THIS AWAY? #9

I like the pics. Nice knife.

If I ever get one I'm going to remove all that text from the blade and polish it up.

I hate that huge SPYKER on the blade :)

Is that stuff painted, or etched or what?

Actually it's not "colored" at all. The lettering is either stamped or laser egraved into the blade. The flat interior of each letter has a finish sufficiently different from that of the rest of the blade to appear to be darker. At just the right angle, in just the right light, it all but disappears. It is not terribly deep, but it is deep enough that it would not be easy to buff out.

Deacon, this is the method that sal and eric use to sign their knives, and the method that Golden uses to write the steel and the Golden Co USA Earth on the blade correct?

I have the Spyker and I think it will stay in it's poach. Just too beautiful to be damaged by EDC.

Has the strange blade shape a particular function or is it just a trademark?

I don't like the big name on the blade either.

Hard to explain well. The interior of the letters on the Spyker appear to be flat. In contrast, the :spyder: on the blade of my Stretch appears to be made up of a series of very thin, evenly spaced parallel grooves. Am not well enough versed in the various ways designs can be incised into metal to be sure exactly how any of the logos, tang markings, and monograms are done.

But my major point, in answer to David's question, was that the lettering on the Spyker blade is relatively "deep" and may therefor be difficult to remove cleanly.

I did remove the markings from a "BRK 1st Gen" Native once, using hand held sandpaper, just to see how much work was involved. That took less than half an hour, 95% of the engraving was very shallow and came off in the first five minutes, the rest was just enough deeper to be a bit of a chore to remove. I would say the engraving on the Spyker is three times deeper than the deepest spots on that Native.

My say, I like the logo on the blade. This piece created a stir with the Onion/Kershaw fans as well as the people here in the Spyderco camp. I don't know for sure, but by marking the blade as such - SPYDERCO - KERSHAW - SPYKER - it increases the market for the knife to both manufacturers followers. (maybe some legalities involved too?) I doubt very much Kershaw folks would buy it without the Kershaw logo. Anyway. it's a hot logo on the blade.

Well that logo sure proves the truth of the sayings "you can't please everyone" and "one man's meat is another man's poison". I'm kind of on the fence about it. :o There are times I think that flaunting the fact that this knife legally incorporates design features from Ken Onion, Kershaw, and Spyderco is kind of cool. ;) At others it looks all too much like the advertisments emblazoned on the blades of the "$1.99 Specials" at Ace Hardware. :(

Spydutch, recurves offer a combination of characteristics. The belly on the forward part of the blade makes them suitable for skinning game, the back portion of the blade works like that of a hawkbill to help retain things like stems and rope while cutting them.

I forgot to mention that the otherthing cool about the logo is the first 3 letters are Spyderco logo script - SPY, and the KER is in Kershaw logo script. I love little details like that. I'd love to know who the art designer for that was.

We do a bit of promotional item selling, and some of the knives we sell are sent to a company that uses a kind of paste that is pu on the blade. a laser is then used to etch the name of the company or logo into the blade. Some kind of chemical reaction with the paste (which is apparently poisonous). the logos and wording are always in black. Not easy to remove at all, will probably damage the blade. The wording on the spyker looks and feels the same. I have to agree, I also do not like it.
