Interesting Story: Denzel Washington

Interesting article

Subject: Denzel Washington : Brooks Army Medical Center

Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his
family visited the troups at Brook Army Medical Center, in San
Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have
been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States,
especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher
Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay,
for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the
hospital.
BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine,
they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one
of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to
build.
He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right
there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this
story
and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed
their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Madonna, Sean Penn and
other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything
America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of
any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio...Doc

Anti-everything America? Whatchoo talkin' bout? Being against the current administration is hardly the same as being anti-American.

I agree with what you're saying, but I don't think many people of either side are particularly tolerant of hearing the opposite view nowadays. I applaud Denzel for: 1. making an effort to visit soldiers without making a political statement, 2. doing something to help when he found out he could, and 3. not raising a fuss when it wasn't publicized more.

I applaud him also, what a great thing to do.

I also aggree with the argument that in a democratic society people should be able to air thier view's.. left, right, good or bad, but.. I also believe that when our soldier's and army's are called to action by there political master's, they deserve the support of thier fellow countrymen, to know we are thinking and praying for them and on thier hopefully safe return they will not be discarded like a stray animal, whatever your political view's we all owe them thank's, thank's that you and they unlike myself and many other people, went, when they where called to do a job that no matter how hard you've trained, I imagine is at best hard work and at worst most unpleasant and terryfying.. but they have still got to get on with it..

this just goes to prove that even if someone has a problem w/ the current administration that you should always stand behind the troops. im glad to see a celeb take charge and make a difference.

I was really happy the first time I heard this story; I'm still happy about it. It shows real support from a well know celeb, and that flies in the face of those other well known celebs who chant "baby killer" and other such crap.
But to not perpetuate that which is not exactly true I have to recommend that you check this site out:

I don't mean to in any way discount what Mr. Washington did, he did do something similar. He is one of my favorite actors, and I appreciate what he did. I'd hate for anyone here to repeat this story to someone who can tactlessly refute it, as it is very close to what happened.

Yep the story didn't go exactly like it is written...the part about whiping out the checkbook seems to be urban legend (as he doesn't carry a checkbook with him)...however he did donate lots of money a couple of weeks later...Doc Still a job well done by Denzel...

I have always liked Denzel. Everything I have seen him in I have liked. I don't know what kind of person he is but he's a good actor that would seem to be a cool cat.
