anyone know of or make custom clips for spydies?
looking for a plain clip for my lil temp, getting tired of it eating my pockets. prefer Ti, and wouldn't mind having the holes drilled for indexing.
custom clips?

custom clips?
Coffee before Conciousness
Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

Hi VW!
Why not make it yourself? I made a custom clip from Ti for the first folder I made out of a sheet of 1 mm Ti6Al4V. It actually is not very difficult and you won't need much equipment for that kind of project. Just the Ti, a coping saw with good blades for sawing metal, some kind of clamp to secure the Ti to a desk or work-bench, at least one file and some sanding paper. Not to forget a drillpress or something similar plus a good drill bit.
Normally Ti eats up tools like crazy and it's hard to work with but not if it is that thin. Just be sure to have enough blades for the coping saw at hand. IIRC I needed 1 for every 2 cm (I used the thin ones that look like a wire - is that a jigsaw and not a coping saw  ) The clip for my first folder was also my first clip and it took me about an hour from start to finish. Maybe one and 1/4 hour.
It's really not difficult and this way you can also make it exactly like you want. I'd give it a try, you've nothing to loose :)
Cheers, Rob

I'd have to find Ti here first... have the tools between the shed and garage, if the dremel and angle grinder won't do it.
figured it someone makes Ti clips I could get a copy made of the lil temp clip
might just get a spare lil temp clip from sfo and work it over with the dremel, take off the ridges and rebend it

Do you know any knifemakers in your area or the US? If yes, just ask one of them if he would sell a piece of Ti that is big enough to make a clip of it. That'll be usually a lot cheaper than ordering from a knifemaker's supply shop where you normally have to take larger quantities. Just try to get thin material. 1 mm is enough for a clip anything thicker will be not so funny to work with. Also: Be careful with power tools. If you grind Ti too fast, it'll produce exremely bright white sparks. Not very comfortable to look at and really nasty if one of these sparks sets the rest of the grinding dust on fire.
I've read on an other forum that someone tried to use a vacuum cleaner to pick up the dust while grinding Ti. The result was a nice Ti-fire in the cleaner :D That just as a funny side-note...
IIRC the Lil'Temp has almost the same clip as the ATR. This kind is IMO not doable without the proper machines because of the U-shape of the clip. Any other style should be no problem at all.
Cheers, Rob

rob, the ridges underneath(that create the U shape) is why I'm looking at custom :p , getting tired of it eating my pockets
I've sent a PM to joyce, see if I can get a spare clip or 2 from sfo to abuse with my dremel. easier than making one myself and worrying about getting the holes spaced right for the screws.
as far as sparks, I have both regular and tinted safety glasses... infact, I wear the tinted ones daily as sunglasses  ANSI rated singlasses for all of $12 can't be beat.

photosensitivity is a bitch at times. Some days I could probably get away with welding goggles.

if I'm outside for about 20min without sunglasses I may as well be blind for the next hour.
supposed to wear my glasses when driving, but didn't get frames with clip-ons, so i have to go 1/2 blind anyways... just may as well be able to 1/2 see when I get inside somewhere and wear my sunglasses everywhere.
LOVED my last pair of sunglasses. Looked great on me, nice grey scale on em, let me wear em inside no problem, could read inside with em on still even. Busted one of the rims at the solder.
Might just have to get clip-ons when I get my eyes checked this fall/winter again. Better than looking for good sunglasses(and I'll have to read all day for school starting september).
