Manix Trainer?

#1

Post by ErinMT »

In a hurry so here's the short of it,

Who'd buy a Manix trainer to go with thier new tank of a knife? Seems people are crazy over these super knives, would a trainer version be succesful? I know I'd get one.

why would anybody ever buy a trainer. id buy a real knife. and put electricle tape around it. This way ya wont get cut and ya actually have a working real knife in the end when you no longer need the trainer.

That's a great way to get cut.

A manix trainer isn't for me...it seems pretty close to the temperance in all actuality, except it folds of course.

Taping the edge of your knife, as a trainer, please do it and tell us how it worked out for you and your training partner! :D Most likely, you will be posting from jail?!

I love trainers, takes training to a whole new level. Not for the Manix though. As cool as the Manix is, to me, it is a pure field knife. I tried some drills but this knife remains 'dead' in the hand. The straight handle and blade design makes for awkward MBC grips. The alignment of the point and my forearm is totally off for example. Controlling the blade in MBC exercises is really hard for me with the Manix.

Judging from the design skills Eric displayed with the Dodo, I am pretty sure that he had something else in mind (than MBC) for the Manix. To me the Manix is a utility/field knife and I would not be interested in a Manix trainer. A Chinook II trainer however.....

Dont really know how you would get cut. I would tape it and then tape a very small piece of wood or plastic onto the tip.

It will work.

I knew someone that did that trick. He put a strip of leather along the edge, then wrapped it with eletrical tape. Put about an 1/8 of an inch on it.

Well it worked for 1 pass. Then the whole thing slid/sliced off the blade and the next pass he put a long deep cut right into the neck area of his foam practice dummy.

If he'd tried it on a person they would have died and he'd be in jail.

Well bummer. I thought people would jump all over it just to have one to go with their live blade.

I'd just really love to see more trainers. Maybe make replacement blades for the models that have removable blades? Then they can just be swapped out during training sessions.

I'm honestly more keen on the yojimbo trainer that is to be released. But since I do carry a manix as a s.d. blade yeah, I'd buy a trainer.
Doubt the market would justify it though, most seem to carry the manix as a work knife.

Don't know about a Manix trainer, but I will sure go for a Yojimbo Trainer.. hint hint, nudge nudge wink wink!!

I wouldn't trust a taped edge, however if you grind off the edge and taper it back, round the point you might have a good trainer. but it also may take away a little of the balance.

You may wanna try this guy... MM@plastictrainer.com - he might be able to make you a cheap version that fits the same - (though the weight is off, and it stays open) they do work great for MBC drills.

hope it helps..
