request for manix photos

#1

Post by hrdwrguy »

I am considering a Manix but I am not sure about the size and weight. I know it's big but I would like to know what it's like compared to other knives I own. I am hoping that someone out there has side by side pictures of it with say: para, persian, endura, or an al mar sere 2k. As far as heft goes, by the numbers it seems closest to the al mar but I could be wrong.
thanks
Mike

Hi Mike!

Take a look at The Deacon's homepage. There's a pic of the Manix beside a Police model, a Rookie and a Harpy.

Cheers, Rob

A word of caution Mike, if you intend to follow Rob's excellent advice and pay a visit to Paul's site, you would be well-advised to have a couple of paper towels at the ready. Profuse drooling is a typical reaction :D .

Thanks for the kudos Mariner! Mike, you may also want to check out this thread of mine from a few months back. First post shows comparison shots of the Manix and a number of other Spyderco models, then, further down in the thread, another post shows it specifically with the Schempp Persian. Don't have any of the non-spydies you mention, but from the specs of the Sere 2000 it would appear they're pretty close with the Manix just a hair heavier.

About the weight of the Manix. Although the weight on paper is substantial, in the hand and in the pocket it is significantly lighter than expected. The weight is superbly distributed throughout that long and wide handle. I have no real comparison pics of the Manix on my site, but certainly won't hesitate to shamelessly plug its review on my site. :D

Here's a pair that just got back from a hiking weekend with myself and a friend...we didn't need any other knife. The work was slicing up a chicken for BBQ, making bark shavings to lite a fire, preparing food... you name it and the Manix can do it!

Gonna shoot some Manix pics today or tomorrow. Ted, those Millie vs the Manix pics are great. I have to say it though the Millie is a CLASSIC and hard to beat. I just love it.
Don't get me wrong though the Manix would take a bit more abuse I think :)

your pic comparing the para and the manix confuses me

I was about to order a para-milly but now the blade look real short :|

by any chance do you have a salsa/nativeIII/d'fly/navi?

I own these ones so it would be a better shot to compare those two knives

thenick, if you go to my site (see signature) and go to the 'see a spyderco in real size', you can put the Manix or Para 1:1 on the screen, and put any knife you own for yourself next to it!

I think I understand where your confusion comes from, the fact is that my Para has been my beater for almost a year now and during my sharpening sessions on the 204 I ripped on the stones and rounded the tip several times, hence maybe a 1-2 mm shorter blade which can change the visual aspect a lot...

so here's a pic with the other knives you and I own... hope this helps :)
(beware! worst pic ever! )

Ted's website is a great help too! live on your screen! ]http://img121.exs.cx/img121/1581/compar5vd.jpg[/IMG]

The Manix also holds a lot of interest for me. I think, for me anyway, it's one that I have to hold and fondle first. I've found that pictures and specs can be deceptive. Case in point, was my Endura that showed up yesterday :D I was in one of the shops and actually pulled my Delica and put it beside the Endura, picked it up, played with it to compare, before making a decision (I fondled the Para Military- bad move!!! BUT I haven't bought yet :D ) I thought about it, and then ordered it from Pauline at Knifezone - I "needed" a Becker BK11 at the same time, and the shop didn't have it. When I opened the box, the first impression I got was "wait - did this thing get bigger? It was a BIG knife :D I get the feeling that the Manix will be the same way.
