Do you have a Spyderco shop in where you live?

Post by spydercolchester »

i WISH THERE was a Spyderco shop in my city where I can go look at all the different models, handle them, open and close them, bond with them a bit :) and buy what I like best.

The pictures on the internet are fine but nothing beats god old fashon shops.

Do you have a shop in where you live?

Living in BFE does have its disadvantages.

The closest shop I am aware of that stocks anything Spyderco is three hours' drive from home. The last time I was there they had two or three models. Scads of Kershaw and Buck. Go figure.

I would love to see a shop close to home, but as it stands now I generally have to order my Spydies sight unseen. I have only been disappointed once, and that had to do with personal preference rather than any deficiency on the part of the knife in question.

Yes -- River's Edge in Columbus, Ohio. Excellent store -- I give them most of my business. They carry a pretty full line of Spydercos as well as other makers -- CRK, Strider, Benchmade, SOG, Kershaw, CRKT, etc. -- and even some customs.

I'm lucky. There's really no substitute for handling and inspecting a knife in person before buying. And if something does happen to go wrong after that, it's a short drive to the store rather than shipping followed by weeks of waiting.

An Endura, two Delica's and a Rescue 93mm(if it was the blue it would not be there :D ) in one shop. A Ladybug in another. One other place that thinks I stole a Snap-it from them(they lost it), they also have a Co-Pilot.
The meat and potatoes are around here but are farily expensive. Take Care!!!

I don't know where to find them in my area either, close I mean. The :spyder: dealer finder only comes up with 3 and the closest about an hour away.

The best knife shop I know is "The Old Man" in Amsterdam. I live in Leiden and work in Amsterdam just a 45 minutes commute. "TOM" has lots of knives and almost the complete Spyderco range. They do a great job stocking my most favorite knives including many custom made's.
They are not the cheapest but you can get what you see and that is worth something also.

There are several other knife specialist stores but not as close as "TOM". When Sal is in Amsterdam he always visits them and does the pep talk!
Cheers, Jurphaas. :D

There are no Spyderco stores (or specialized knife stores) where I live. The company that imports Spyderco into the Netherlands has plenty of dealers though (hardware stores, gift shops, outdoor stores etc.). Sometimes I spot a Spyderco in one of those stores. Some days ago I visited an outdoor store and they had three Spydercos. Two Delicas (FRN plain, SS serrated) and a SS plain Police. The two Delicas are no longer there cause I bought them ;) . Usually the knife knowledge of the employees is close to zero. Most of them never heard of Spyderco at all. Maybe some of the Dutch forum members know of any specialized knife stores in Limburg?

I have 6 in my area. Nearest one is about 15 minutes away and the farthest is about an hour.

I guess its a nice benifit living in the Chicagoland area.

But a couple of the shops are really anal about touching/playing with the knives. Their excuse is that you could turn it on them or hurt yourself.

It's actually a bit funny, one of the shops is a gunshop, the guy behind the counter had a .45 on his belt... Do you really think I'd turn the knife on him.

I have several close by. One "paintball" tec store has a great selection and nice prices. An Army/Navy outlet has several at high prices. A couple of gun shops have them but usualy at higher prices.
Then there is this glowing box in front of me...

I'm with Jur on 'the old man'. Back when I could travel on the cheap as a student, I'd travel to Amsterdam all the time. They truly have (almost) everything, and in my day the staff was very knowledgeable.

The cool thing is that the actual knife store is past the ground floor in the back (in the front they sell 'chemistry sets' to drunk tourists ;) , hey it's Amsterdam!), up you go along a rickety stairs and presto, you enter knife heaven.

There's even a little plaque from spyderco rewarding them for excellence in knife sales, or something like that. If you ever visit Amsterdam, let me know and I'll steer you in the right direction.

I use the shops around me that carry spyderco to go and touch and feel. They all sell @ MSRP so I usually buy online and save at least 40% including shipping

I go to Beck's Cutlery in Cary, NC. It is a hour's drive. Usually when I go I'll post what I have seen, because she always has something someone here is looking for(Spydiewrench, Starmate, Jot, ATR's, and etc.) If there is something you are looking for drop an email to Patsy at http://www.beckscutlery.com .

Yes, Merlo's Cutlery in Santa Maria, CA
I met the owner many years ago to discuss obtaining my Collector Spyderco knives thru them as my dealer. The man was rude and did not want to discuss a deal as I would be purchasing knives costing hundreds of dollars/year.
Spyderco Collectors have to take 1 ea knife that is a new model so I do not need (or have the option) to see and feel each one before purchasing. My choice is SFO for my collector models (free shipping and no sales tax).
Other Knife purchases are via the internet, New Graham Knives I am very happy with their service and prices.
However, it is nice to visit knife shops and I do when traveling thru other areas. :)

Sportsman's Warehouse in Coon Rapids (North of Minneapolis) has a good selection of Spydies under $100. I always go right to Mike at NGK for everything else.

I'm lucky I get to work in one of those stores. :)

But the selection isn't that great 20ish items in my store probably 30ish company wide. A few of us keep pushing them to pick up more but the problem we find is that not everyone can put the price and the quality together, and educating customers sometimes just isn't easy.

Cho, which Vancouver knife shop would that be? Vancouver is my favorite holiday city in the world, and I tend to come there at least once a year. I know some of the small knife shops in malls, but they only have 2 or 3 spydies? I'm always hoping to pick up a nice out of production spydie or a Grohmann's flat ground survival model, but alas!

Wouter

PS great thread idea, something to include in the knowledge base for when we are making holiday plans! :D
