Got Lanyards???

#1

Post by CKE »

So I have been busy tying some lanyards on my knives and thought I would share. I have made a couple out of Canadian paracord and some small 2mm and 3mm climbing rope. Here is my latest batch of climbing rope to tied me over till some 550 gets here :D
Now to make some Monkey Fists and Square Sinnets. Take Care!!!

Craig, the really thin blue cord at the extreme left of your picture looks very interesting, what is it?

2mm kernmantle cord, they use it for prusic knots when climbing. These are very high tensile strenght cords that can be purchased in any well stocked climbing or outdoor shop.

Mongo is right. TBay is loaded with climbing rope. The 2mm ties quite nice, though there is not much difference if you pull the inner strands out or not. It ties the size of the lanyard on the Yojimbo in the pic. Every shop here in town stocks a different colour so I can get tons of climbing rope in funky colour combos. I am really looking forward to trying out the paracord that is on its way.

What is the difference between paracord and climbing rope? Is one better for lanyards that the other?

Thanks!
Burt :)

Paracord is bigger than the climbing rope I am using(2mm and 3mm) When you pull the inner strands out of climbing rope it still maintains a round shape(I have found) When you pull the inner strands out of paracord it lays flat when you tie it into a lanyard. Basically they are the same I believe, they both have a braided outer layer and strands on the inner core. Someone else could probably answer better. As for one better than the other, I think it just come down to personal preference. Hope that helps, Take Care!!!
