i haven't seen one of these in a little while...

what one single spydie that you own would you want to use in EACH OF the following situations?
(RULES: one knife per answer, and you gotta own it!)

AFRICAN SAFARI GONE HORRIBLY WRONG?

STRANDED ON DESERTED ISLAND?

UNEXPECTED PIRATE ENCOUNTER IN BACK ALLEY, CLOSE QUARTERS?

FENDING OFF A HORDE OF FLESH-EATING MUTANT ZOMBIES?

PACK OF COYOTES AT NIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR TRUCK? (as discussed in previous threads)

50,000,000 BOXES TO CUT WHILE TIMID ELDERLY FOLKS WATCH?

CUTTING A GREASY SAUSAGE SANDWICH FOR YOUR FATHER-IN-LAW?

PANTHER UNEXPECTEDLY JUMPS ON YOUR BACK? (as discussed in previous threads)

STUCK IN DEEP WOODS WITHOUT BUG SPRAY?

TRAPPED INSIDE A VEHICLE?

SITTING ABOUT IDLY WHILE CONTEMPLATING THE MEANING OF LIFE?

well, i was hoping people might suggest a :spyder: for each situation.

otherwise i would have said something like: "urban pirate teams up with coyotes and panthers while you're stuck on safari in the woods on a deserted island and tries to make you cut up boxes while you're stuck in a car trying to slice a greasy sausage sandwich for a zombie mutant father-in-law" ;)

in which case, a jester might be perfect? :p

Now let me ask a question-

What ONE knife would you use that would work for all listed situations?

Oh man that's an easy one...
It would be my Combo Edge S30V Military.
It would be just about perfect for all those scenarios.
As for the timed old folks, well.... they'll just have to will get their own knifes! :D

Oh yeah, gotta love the enduras--as you may have guessed by my avatar...

Please, tell me more about this ZDP189 steel...I've not heard a lot about it

--I did a forum search, but only 2 hits I think; here and the "tell Spyderco what you want!" post by denn...is there a different name that this steel is better known as???

I admit my next quarry to be S30V or S60V unless skewed greatly by unforeseen events ;)

jsholli,

look here for steel specs...

http://www.agrussell.com/knife_information/steel_guide/

ZDP189 is 3% carbon, and 20% chrome, and nothing else!
+- 67 Rockwell hardness!!!!!!!!

I have cut with a small piece, about the size of a scalpel blade, held in a Vicegrip, and I shaved a sliver of 61 Rockwell D2 off one of my test blades!!!

I am waiting till it becomes more freely available, and then I might make a few blades for myself.....

for most of these wildlife situations I'd take my SE ATS34 Millie, it could serve well for the comtemplating part too... the engraved logo is just so beautiful :)

to cut out a vehicule door or roof: a big one with double integral steel liner like the Manix (I'm cheating cause I'll receive it next week ;) )

as for the poor ederly folks, a PE cricket...

I didn't meet a father in law yet :)

After some thought and comtemplation.....I think that the ONE(and only) Spyder that I would carry for ALL of these situations would be my Manix PE!!! :D

Of course, I would have my S30V Military PE as backup. ;)

That simplifies it. It would be my SE Delica. The knife I carry 99% of all time.

My choice would be Endura SS plain edge, other two spydies are considered as too small for all the tasks (Caly Jr.+Pro Grip).
I would ad a ceramic pro file to the C47 just to keep it shaving sharp :)

Humm...I think some fields need a little improvement...I could use a Pacific Salt, and a fixed blade like the Perrin. But, then again, not that many coyotes, panthers, pirates and deserted woods & islands here... :)

If I could use only one for this one (which was good for a good morning laugh!)

urban pirate teams up with coyotes and panthers while you're stuck on safari in the woods on a deserted island and tries to make you cut up boxes while you're stuck in a car trying to slice a greasy sausage sandwich for a zombie mutant father-in-law"

MANIX - I technically still have it till april 2nd, when I will give it to a friend as a birthday present ;)
