Mouse : small knife built like a tank

Post by AllenETreat »

I just had a chance to get my hand's on

the no-longer-in-production Spyderco/Blade tech Mouse - I can't help but like this

mighty mite! For it's diminuative size, this

has gotta be the best built I've seen thus

far. Zero in the blade play dept. & with a

<img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> sharp PE to boot. I can see now why they

go for $100+, if it weren't so co$t prohibitive for me I'd soon get one.

Nice job <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> ( and Blade tech <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>)!

Try out the aluminum-handled Salsa some time. Talk about your butcher's knife/battle axe/razor/laser/scalpel in <3" of happy steel. And Spyderco sells the right-handed only models for less than half the price of the Mouse with shipping included.

AET: I agree.
It was my first VG10 blade. I carried this one lots in my early collecting days. The backlock feels strong enough for a 7" blade! And yet no one in my office ever considered it more than "cute".

I had the opportunity of seing a dismantled Mouse (the Blade Tech version) and my respect for Tim Wegner increased considerably (not that I wouldn't appreciate him before) <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> It is my kind of concept: small, simple, reliable, strong, lightweight and linerless. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I managed to get my hands on a Spyderco mouse in a trade. Great little blade, and built like a tank. It is a bit too small for my hands but works great as a money clip which is what I have used it for. I am afraid to clip any shot folder as I am afraid that it will be pushed up while sitting and get lost, so mostly the Mouse goes into my pocket securing my meager funds.

You still have money, John? Are you sure you're a 'knife' person? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The Mouse is a fine piece. I've had both (Spyderco and G-10 Blade-Tech model). I still have the Spyderco one.
This is a pic of my (ex) G-10 one disassembled.

It may sound cheeky but I saw this thread and thought if anyone would like to swap/passaround/compare the G10 wegner Mouse Mk2 with the Almite handled original. The knife never 'clicked 'with me and I think the main reason was a horror of scuffing alu handles. A G10 version, apart from losing the round hole would seem to be an improvement for me. I always wanted to like this knife after all the good reports but it went back in the box ousted by a Kiwi. Stag wears well in a gentlemans pocket.
