Kaizer,

No expert but, a quick look at the lines and the SKU number indicates this is probably a Moki. Moki is a Japanese maker that was imported and sold through Spyderco kind of like the Bird knives are offered today. Ramco and Sakai are other similar examples of this kind of coopration and you will find the highly desirable Laguiole popping up from time to time and the Sakai often pops up as a Spyderco Hotaru (Firefly). Either of these are the are serious dogmatic desirables in the serious collector's less than "holey" grail.

j

BTW: The Sakai Bird and Trout series are exceptional pocketknives (even if they have no hole).

....and the Hotaru was good for finding keyholes and other Spydies in the dark.

IIRC the Jess Horn Lightweight was one Spyderco (labelled) model that was manufactured by MOKI. Spyderco was also a distributor for MOKI brand knives.

Right. Much like the one clipped in my pocket right now. As I understand, Moki manufactures for Spyderco and their own designs were imported and sold by Spyderco in the '90s. Some Sakais also such as the discontinued Backpacker (nail nick, no hole)now offered in the product listing on this site, and I think another current model listed herein. All very nice quality as expected of Spyderco.

It is indeed a Moki, I think the model was called the "Everina" and came in 2 sizes. It was a FRN handled version of the Moki "Evrina" pictured. This was also a Spyderco exclusive, this one has scrimshaw by Linda Karst. The smaller knife had a cheetah instead of the tiger. There were only 50 of each scrimshawed and John Jensen still has 2 sets if anyone is looking for something really nice.

p.s. I may have the names around the wrong way :-).

Hi Clay,

Nice to see you dude. You're right, not as pretty as the ones you pictured but still a very nice quality knife for EDC, etc. I am very pleased with mine and will buy another if I can.

Yeh, how's the boat project?....and y'all<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

G'day j & j :-)

Yeah I'm still lurking around, I check in every day or so. Don't get as much time to post as I used to though, especially now that I can't post at work because the Spyderco site (as well as BF etc.) have been deemed to be unsuitable for young minds and are being filtered by the Education Dept. I guess we must all be depraved and dangerous individuals :-).

The boat is going very, very slowly. It's amazing how busy 3 kids can make you, especially a 3 year old. I go to work for a rest on Monday to recover from the weekend and there are 1100 boys there. I'm taking some long service leave in August before we go skiing and plan to do some more work on it then.

That Evrina is the pride of my collection, especially as I got it in a special deal with Sal in the early days of the forum.

later,
clay
