A knowledgable knife lover I know told me that White Lightning is just an elaborate form of thinner. Is this true?

No that is not true. White lightening is a wax based lubricant with wax in suspension in a quickly evaporating liquid (which may be something like "thinner&quot<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. It does sort of smell like mineral spirits. It is the wax left behind that actually does the lubricating. It has worked really well on all of my Spydercos, though I have other knives that WL doesn't work well on. Here's their website.
