OT - Your forum name

#1

Post by silverback »

I was wondering if some of the forum names have a special meaning.

Why did you choose yours?

Any story attached?

O.K., I'll start:

I have a white lock on my forehead, all other hair is still dark.

And I'm a big guy, so my girlfriend started joking that I am a silverback, like in the gorilla families.

So I thought: that's a cool online name, voila.<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Incidentally: I just passed 100 posts!

Oook, ook!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I have been trading knives for a couple of years as Bargain-Blades on eBay. I thought that by using the same name it would be less confusing, for me mainly!

Just a nickname hung on me some years ago by some 'friends'? Also used to denote and mark ownership of my stuff as in JAX thing. I usually go by the name Jack, which is not my real legal name. Confused? not me.

I confess that my username isn't creative at all; it's just my first name.

I have another name for a different forum that I frequent (Usual Suspects Network). My name there is "Long Rifle". I chose it because of a prior occupation, which was being a sniper for a tactical unit that I was on.

Here's the origin of mine. 2000 ZRX1100, often just called a ZRX. Those who ride them are called ZRX'ers, which morphed into Zrexxer.

CKE> Canadian Knife Enthusiast, cheesy I know. When I signed up I did not want a long name that I would have to type out all the time.

glockman99...Because I'm "into" Glock pistols, and I was going to use my birth year (54), but since there was a "glockman54" already, I just plugged in 99 for the heck of it.

No creativity on my part, either. Mine is just my first and last names run together because for the longest time, that's the way almost everyone I know has addressed me. I guess it may have started when I used to work with two other Tims as a way to tell us apart, and it just stuck...

Although I am now retired, when I registered, I was working as a forester - therefore "4 s ter".

I still hold my professional forester's registration. Foresters must be licensed to practice in Ontario - similar to doctors, lawyers, auto mechanics <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, etc.

I spend every free moment on or in the saltwater (when it's warmer out!): power boating, sailing -both cruising and racing, lobstering, fishing, clamming, flyrodding, kayaking....soooo this nickname saltydog just kind of popped up and it kind of says it all. My Tacoma and sometimes my clothes are full of so much salt (and sand) you can literally hear them crackle sometimes. Icouldn't keep my Spydies healthy without constant vigilance, washing and light wipe with Marvel's Mystery Oil. A few are true working knives...beaters

I have a friend who collects fantasy sword replicas, another who is into fixed blades and big SOGs and I'm the compact folding knife man.

This makes me the odd man out sizewise, but philosopically speaking I'd rather have a REAL knife than a fake sword, and a light folder that is ON you rather than the heavy blade that you left at home.

At the end of the day, the point is that my knives are 'Still sharp', able to go toe to toe with what they got and perform as well if not better, and that's what I tell 'em!

That and I'm a Tolkiens buff <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Edit: In the LOTR-FOTR movie, Boromir cuts himself deep with the Shards of Narsil and comments in surprise/awe that they are 'Still sharp'.
