hello everyone, new guy here

I recently fell in love with Spyderco knives, can't explain why I love them so much, I and my wife thought it was strange that I had so much passion for these sweet little knives. Anyways I found this forum and realized that there are many more people just like me that love Spydercos. Anyways I have 2 now, my first was the delica serrated (just got it a week ago) now today I just recieved my Peter Hurbst combo edge from an ebay auction. The auction stated the specs of this knife here, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEBWN:IT

and in the specs the blade steel type says it is ATS-55, the knife itself is stamped VG-10. I have done extensive research on this knife b4 I actually purchased it. My question is: What is the better steel type? And did I get a good deal (I know I seen this knife here at spyderco.com for $49.95, less than a week ago. I had it in my cart and was ready to check out with it, but my wife was at the store (rare) and had my credit card so when she came back about an hour later I tried to check out with it but it was sold out. I was heart broken)? Does anyone else out there have this knife, and what are your opinions? Thanks in advance,

Ted Field

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum, Ted. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.
ATS-55 is a great steel (it's one of my favorite steels). It was replaced some time ago with VG-10 which performs even better. It's the Spyderco tradition to use the most trendy materials

Hi there, and welcome to the Spydie-bin! I'm fairly new as well here, and incidentally, my first two Spydies are a Delica and a Herbst as well. I got a Carbon Fiber plain edge Delica and a plain-edge Herbst, both in VG-10. I hold VG-10 in high regard, even though it was advertised - on the Spyderco-site - as ATS-55. I don't really mind. I paid a helluvalot more due to shipping and taxes, but am still much better off than buying from a local shop here.

Living in the Netherlands, I have the privilege to meet Sal and some of his crew when they stop over here on their way to Germany; March 8th. Quite a nice way of getting terminally addicted to the brand I'm afraid.

Enjoy!

Welcome Ted. Spyderco is unique in design and I like VG10 compare with ATS55.

Welcome to the forum Tedster.

You'll find that even the "old" steels are still great and won't leave you wanting.

Thank you all for welcoming me! I never knew there were so many spyderco enthusiasts. Dialex- are those knives on your page just concept knives, or are they available to buy? There are a couple that I really wan't. Do you work for spyderco? I could probably ramble on and on with questions out the yang, but I will refrain for now. I'm really excited to be here and thanks again for your welcoming me! Where is the best place to buy?

Hey, welcome, i'm new to the forum myself. i have the same fascination with Spyderco. They're just simply the greatest production knives out there. www.newgraham.com is by far the best place to buy Spyderco. He has everything and at very fair prices.
btw...I'd also like to know about those concepts...

Having slight Spyderco addiction...help

Hello! I am yet another long-time-reader-first-time-poster. I am most grateful for what I have been able to learn from you all.

Tedster? Tedster91? Ted Field? Is that YOU? Holy stool! Well, that explains the “spyderman” Underoos.

Yeah, don'tcha hate it when you end up paying too much on ebay?

Aren't Spyderco's kewl? I am currently waiting for a serrated FRN Cricket to arrive in the mail...my sphincter is clenched in anticipation!

And speaking of “the Yang”, apparently, you can get Crickets with a “Yin and Yang” pattern on them...Coincidence? Still, I prefer the grippy-ness of an FRN handle.

"The" Tedster and I are friends from off-forum...It's a small, small World-Wide-Web.

take care...d.

Welcome Ted. Welcome Death_Bringah. The members of this forum are awesome, freindly, and always willing to give advice. I don't think you'll find a better bunch of people.

You have caught the Spyderco bug, too, huh. It is contagious. The Delica is an awesome knife. It was my first Spydie as well. Unfortunately you won't be satisfied with just one, or two, or three... Heck I have twenty and still haven't got enough. It's a bad disease. Again, welcome.
