Great looking Manix!Jeb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 11:15 am# 30
Got new FatCarbon scales in from Nickabrack on etsy today. These are from France, had to wait quite sometime for these, but wow!!! What a set of scales.
These are about 1mm thicker and the edges are rounded, they feel almost soft in my paw very satin like.
Just look stunning on the Manix2, my pix of the knife are not going to capture these scales as they look and feel in person either.
Going outside and trying to use the natural sunshine is a hard pass today also, as we have the mother of all sand storms blowing outside right now. Here is a looksee at them on the red silicone rubber Spyderco mat of mine under 5000 Kelvin LEDs.
I also have a set of that French maker.
He really has sole great skill. I love that his scales are a bit thicker and rounded off nicely makes the Manix even more comfortable.
Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Your exactly right about his scales, it's like they are almost soft to the touch, if you will. They are really different.

Manix 2XL with the jade G10 scales and M4 steel. My first M4 steel Spyderco and I must say the factory bevels on this knife a picture perfect to each other.

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Thanks man, I been after something with the M4 steel for a while now, when I found this one. I have not had time to do anything with it yet but hopefully that will happen in a few days.
Thanks again for checking my stuff out!

Looks great Jeb . Do you have any plans yet for an upgrade ? For years I disliked the Jade scales but now I’m like what was I thinking ?

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Your most welcome! I noticed we have similar tastes so its even more fun to come by and see your beloved Spyders.

By the way the “Gibbs rule 9” coin is epic never seen it on a coin before.

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
I understand that golfers use these coins to lay down when they pickup the ball, so they know where they were when there next turn.
I am sure there is a term for this, never played golf, so I am a total dummy when it comes to golf. I thought it would be cool throw down for ball placement.
I just had to have one when I saw it. The guy makes these with a Lazer. I got a neighbor that is a big golfer and even bigger coin collector, I have yet to show him, I figure he will be all over it once he sees the coin. It's about 2" diameter and 3/16" thick. It's a big nice coin.

Manix 2 - Salt version in yellow frcp scales no liners. The really prize of this knife is the MagnaCut steel. I bought this knife to go in my boat.
This top pic I've tried to show my complaint about this knife and its lack of full liners. You look on the left side of the knife, you can see the cap head of the black hardware.
My grainy pics makes this really hard to see but the point between those two cap heads, where the two halfs of the scales/handle are slightly gapped open. This same point right at the cap heads of the scales are hucked up tight. The scales are wrapped slightly.
I fear as the Texas heat cranks up in the summer this gap is going to get even worse. This gap doesn't exist on our knifes with full liners. Plus there is the jimping of the edge of the liners that will be most welcome also.
Bottom line these lightweight knifes I guess are just not for me with this issue of the gapping from the scales warping between the huck point of the hardware.

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
It’s what I consider nature of the beast . I only have three and my Blue lwt. Is the very first and perfect , St.Nick exclusive is pretty good and my Salt is exactly like yours . Since it is a lightweight I don’t fret over it but would like sometime to replace scales with AWT and replace hardware with Titanium. Maybe a Summer project. Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Dan,
I don't know if you can just simply replace those scales on these lightweight Manix2. With the lack of the liners there is some differences in them.
I may be all wrong about this, but what I saw with this one I got, they first off have a tab that your pivot bolt runs through.
It keeps the pivot hardware from spinning in the scales and I sure it would ack as a back up when tightening or loosening the pivot hardware.
This little tab the pivot bolt runs through is like in the area of where our phosphorus bronze washers are. It's on one side.
Once I saw that it shut me down on a scale swap right quick. I would like nothing better than to take my MagnaCut blade and ball cage, spring and ball and just move it into a set of scales I do like...

#34 - Spyderco - Tomahawk
This beast is exactly as you would think and then some. The scales on it are harse and just flat out mean. Just got to love that the grip on this grabs you back. Gloves would be advised here if prolonged use.
The snap on blade guard is just perfect too. In the truck my other stuff like this didn't come with a guard of any kind and they tend to chew on the other stuff in the truck as well as the truck lol. Great addition that snaps on and off.
The blade stock of D2 is really thick and heavy at 5/16". That gives it more than enough to use as any kind of entry or prying situation you could ever find yourself in.
At the grip end of it, there is a squared off wedge that would take care of just that sort of tasks. It has a 7/8" hole in the bottom of the grip also.
The blade head has two holes the larger is 15/16" and then a smaller that is 1/4"...
The holes in this Tomahawk are perfect for sliding over things to bend or just flat break off something, or to hang this beast by. Not to mention that it looks like a Spyderco product with them.
Here are a few early pix to look at, but there will be way more of this beast to follow. I just live it.

I got a new thread locking agent to try out around here. For like ever the red is my go to, you can still remove it but heating things up a must to do so, if it was put on correctly.
I also have the thread chasing green, don't even keep the blue around here. The green jimo about twice the holding power of blue, and works just fine once you have a good technique for tactfully putting small amounts of it on. It can and will leech into things you don't want the thread lock in or even on...
I got this add the other day on this orange thread locker. They said it holds three times more than blue, but it still can be removed without the heat.
Not knowing anything other than what I read about it I just ordered the smaller 36ml size for some smoke tests around here. Any of you seen or use this stuff.

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Thanks much for this Loctite update . I have used different variations of the Blue and all, seem the same . This Orange seems to be best of both worlds and will give it a try next project .
