Mmmm...a spyderco mug in H1, with screw together red and black G10 handle and large lanyard hole. I'm in.D1omedes wrote:A Spyderco mug and hat actually sound pretty nice. Maybe a new display case? After all, we are all afi's here and most would probably like to show off their collection.
Forum Knife Poll: Model
Do no harm. Do know harm.
A black ceramic mug with red Spyderco logo would be nice.
"Spyderco Forum 2012" on the opposite side of the mug.

By all means be smart :) I like your idea :) The goal of a company/Forum specific product is to share the pride of the companies products with as many forum members as possible and to put individual specifics aside.Alchemy1 wrote:Okay, and not trying to be smart, but why don't we have a poll to show interest in having a forum knife period? That way Spyderco will know how much interest there is in just having a forum specific model and not a specific model/color for the forum. Not saying that will matter a hill of beans to Spyderco either, but that seems to clear up all the arguments and validate your points.
Perhaps a range of options accessible to more of the folks that would like a Forum knife in the US and abroad.
Spyderco does read, respond and act quite frequently to what's posted here, so the responses do mean something. Any kind of concensus on the issue of a forum product will be looked at.
Anything offered as a forum sponsored item I will buy if I can afford it. The important thing is keeping the Forum in mind, that's what it should be about :) Can't forget the "sharp pointy things" though  :) :D

What is a forum piece supposed to be about?
Maybe it's supposed to be about the community I value so much here.
Should it be accessible to all?
Yes, it should be accesible to folks everywhere to enjoy, celebrate the forum community, and appreciate what Spyderco does with these "sharp pointy things".
Should any forum piece favor any model or style?
No, any such piece should and would embody the appreciation we feel for Spyderco products. No matter what the model.
I've seen a number of these threads about what a forum knife should be. If any such model comes up it should only be through a mutual appreciation between Spyderco and their loyal customers. Any kind of self serving opinion in this type of endeavor is doomed to failure.
I agree to all of your points dbcad. I could be wrong but I don't see a forum knife as a hard use knife but a knife or like it was said above, a mug, hat, shirt for everyone to enjoy.dbcad wrote:  :confused :D o the thoughts expressed in my previous post make any kind of sense

I'm not sure that anyone is against a forum knife. Sure some will not like whatever model is chosen, but I am sure the overwhelming consensus is yes we want one. The real question is can Spyderco make it happen this year?Alchemy1 wrote:Okay, and not trying to be smart, but why don't we have a poll to show interest in having a forum knife period? So many knives, so few pockets... :)

They're getting one put together on another forum (different brand, not spyderco), however after several discussion threads, what finally got it going was somebody finding out what models were available, not all are possible. Next narrowing it down to the most popular 3 and then opening a poll on just the model, next a poll on the blade (steel type, coated or satin, and what the options were from the company) and finally the handle material, also after checking with the company about which were available options. Then a interest poll/how many would you buy, to determine the size run. (They tried an interest poll before determining the model, but for many its dependent on the model/blade/handle).
Rules were different with different knives. Any forum member could prepay for Adventura and Lava. There were no prepay for FFG Native. Anybody could buy it on Spyderco website, but only forum members (at least in theory) knew discount code. Entire run was sold within hours.Rossi wrote:I'm sure this will have been asken many times before but is there any rules on who can order a forum knife?
Sorry if you guys are sick of answering this question.

That's kind of what I envisioned going on here, but it looks like the idea is still up in the air. I don't know that anyone has contacted Spyderco either, but Sal reads the threads. So, I'm sure if he thought it was a good idea he would have commented or PM'ed someone or something.michaelm466 wrote:They're getting one put together on another forum (different brand, not spyderco), however after several discussion threads, what finally got it going was somebody finding out what models were available, not all are possible. I voted Native FRN (orange...orange...orange !) because it's my favorite Spyderco knife (Manix is too big) and FRN because even if I love the Native 5, it would be cheaper. But I'd love an orange G10 Native 5 too
