The Sebenza's I have handled have all had minor Horizontal Blade play, as well as Bi-Directional Horizontal Blade play at the pivot, As if the knife were a jackhammer when opened. The blade would move back and forth.

Some how I think this is a load of
BS
I own 3 Sebenzas have owned a few more and handled even more.I have NEVER found one with any blade play what so ever.

I own Spydies and Striders, among other knives. And I don't live at home, either.

I've been in real-world situations, and had job assignments that definitely put me in harm's way, as have many other members here on these boards. And now someone who's never put his *** on the line, except to cross the street to get a burger at Wendy's is calling me a "Mall Ninja" because I own a couple Strider knives???

Trust me, son...I'm no mall ninja, and neither are many of the other folks here. Many of us have "Checked off all the boxes", "Seen the elephant", what have you. Mall Ninjas....that disgusts me.

Looks like this has turned into another knife-bashing thread. What a shame we can't have a civil discussion without the name-calling coming out.

Django wrote: Knives are not meant to be pried with. If you pried with a Sebenza, the blade might break after a while. The same is true for ANY Spyderco. Almost ANY knife for that matter, excluding those built for a secondary function of prying (Strider, very thick knives, for example. These often turn out to be bad cutters as well.)
Not to argue here, but....
Not all Striders are "very thick", and very few of them are "bad cutters". Many of their models are 3/16"-thick (both folding and fixed blades), the same as many other knife manufacturers today. Trust me, these cut like there's no tomorrow, and have no cutting problems. Very sharp.

Others are 1/4"-thick (normally fixed blades), and depending on the blade geometry, these can be less efficient in the slicing department. Some of their shorter, 1/4" thich blades are meant more for prying and less for slashing, but this is the intent of the design, so it's not really a flaw. People who want slicers typically just don't buy a knife of this design.

But I've handled quite a few Striders that were 1/4" thick that cut to the point of being scary. Try out their Mark 1A and let me know what you think....it's a huge knife that's deceivingly light/maneuverable in the hand, and it literally could hack off an arm with one or two swings. Absolutely scary.

Unfortunately, Striders are blanketed into the category of "Really thick prybars that don't cut". Completely false.
Not trying to argue here, just setting the record straight. :)

Hey, JSmith, I wanted to make the point that Strider cut well, but you didn't have to go that far! :D

The Strider PT is one **** of a sharp knife, as well as amazingly strong. The SnG (the PT's big brother) is an awesome slicer, too, as is the SMF (adopted by Marine Spec Ops Detatchment). The Marine Special Operators wouldn't adopt something that was crappy and won't cut.

Yes, Striders are expensive. But they're very strong/durable, and if you do manage to break one, Mick and Duane will fix it and return it to you....for free.
And no, I'm not a paid spokesman for the company. ;)

I have been a reader of this forum for a long time, I think it is a shame one person can stir up so much ****, he supports Spyderco to the end, but he knows nothing about knives.

Now this is just my opinion, but I think he does what he does here, stirs up **** as a game, not so much to bash other knives. I believe he is trying to get the kind of responses he does from people, maybe if no comments where made to his post where made would be a better way to handle this kind of thing, looking back 6 to 8 months ago all he was concerned with was getting his post count up, stirring the pot allows him to make many senseless replies.

I have 4 Sebenza's, about 30 Spyderco's, they are both great knives, I dissagree with Vicent with what he said about the Sebenza, it is a opinion thing, I would put the Sebenza as the best folder I own, a little better then the Microtechs I have. I have thought about getting a Strider, the local shop has carried some in the past when they where a hot item, but they only carried the tiger stripe style, the big heavy ones which I did not like and they was priced between 600 to 950, most of them was custom ground blades from the guys that own Strider, I did not know that Strider made smaller knives since the local shop never carried them, I never followed up online to see what Strider did make, I just assumed they was all big heavy tiger stripe knives, that is what I get for assuming.

He seems to thrive on controversy (his own, self-created drivel), just to rile everyone else up. As for knowing the quality of knives, I disagree with nearly everything he says or claims.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J Smith, that's TOO FUNNY!!!! Dude, you're killing me here!

You're right, though; if we refuse to feed it, it will become disenchanted and slink away to find a place where people feed it. And bliss shall return.

Id hope you dont live at home, you are like 40.

Im going to stick with the Mall Ninja, Because there is zero need to spend that kind of money on a knife that does a lesser job. But this is my Opinion.

Well it wasn't really a cut,the blade went in up to the hole.Front of leg is still numb down to my ankle.I have gotten some feeling back down to about 1/2 in below the scare now.
On the banning thing,I really don't care one way or the other. Its does seem like you thrive on stirring crap up.I know you don't care what I think but I still do not belive you handled even one Sebenza with blade play. The one I have that had the worn out washers was still rock solid.

what name Calling?
"What name calling?" How about Mall Ninja!

And Vincent...you've never owned a Strider (or a Sebenza), never used one...so how, even in your warped sense of "Reality" (YEAH, RIGHT!), can you count yourself even remotely qualified to judge, when you've never used one???

Once again, when you call those of us around here who've put our asses on the line in the service to our country "Mall Ninjas", you tend to irritate people very much.

Mall Ninjas do not have Special Operations Sniper backgrounds with training from some of the best personnel in the world. Frankly, I hope you call someone like that a Mall Ninja in person one day, and get the lesson that's due you.

Mall Ninjas are punk kids who frequent the mall, knife shops, etc., get all kinds of "cool guy" gear that they'll never use, because they still live under mommy and daddy's protection and have no real job.....like you, Vincent.

I'm sorry your life is so pathetic that you degrade yourself to the "thrills" of stirring crap on this forum by trashing other people's reputations and knives. What a pathetic existance! You have my sympathy.

Perhaps one day, you'll......no, no chance.

and you know that Ive never used a Sebenza HOW?

I love the saying I dont have

Special Operations Sniper backgrounds with training from some of the best personnel in the world

Because nither do YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I wouldent want to..

I call them mall Ninjas because they are, there are 3 men in My family all currently in iraq and 2 of them also servered in the first war in iraq. Now none of them have ever heard of strider knives and laughed at the price. again, only the internet woundering people like yourself and others carry Striders. and you are the Mall Ninjas, or maybe internet Ninjas now because you do the same thing just on the internet.

The fact is somebody on a Soldires salary is not going to be carrying a $500+ knife, **** they dont even use knives anymore, there is no such thing as this tactical Knife usage scenerios you see On the INTERNET. There is No Knife fights in iraq, and if there was a Butter Knife would do the same thing as a Strider.

I actually have 2 jobs now and am In school to become an Electrical Engineer. My Jobs may not great but Im only 20 and havwe alot of room to grow. and of corse I live at Home with my Mother, the average child stays untill 26 now and I plan to, because I want to get a m.s in EE and a MBA in MIS.

He's been banned from Blade Forums about 8 times all under different account names. Yet he claim's he doesn't "come back." He does this purposefully, as soon as he gets banned he just makes another name to stir up more controversy.

Let's just let this thread die. Vincent is obviously a dumb person who will stop at nothing to bash anything and everything that isn't Spyderco. After you pass the age of 18, you are not considered a "child" any more, not to mention TWENTY SIX.

Where did you get that BS from anyways? Also, you say you've never used a Sebenza or a Strider. Handling one in a store where a guy disassembles them in order to cause blade play is not considered using one. Go back to flicking your Paramilitary, maybe you'll drop it on your foot.

Not like I have to prove anything to anyone, least of all YOU. I have the certificates and the skill, and that's enough for me.

You might want to do an internet search on Carlos Hathcock III and see what you come up with. That's who's training program I went through. Boy.

If you have any more doubts or want to find out more, I hope to be at the NYC Custom Knife Show in November. We can discuss if further there, and begin your training in earnest.

Now...run back under mommy's apron and hide until you grow up. Oh, wait....that might take another two decades, because you haven't even gotten halfway there yet.
